Ive been in the garden all day from 7am doing what i call the show bits and bobs around the beds etc ie using one of the best tools any gardener can have in his tool shed "the good old hoe"

For the sake of an hour in the morning each day just chopping off the heads of those nasty weeds you'll save yourself so much time and trouble later on.

Apart from hoing ive also edged the borders and dead headed the roses And give all the roses a feed, i do the feeding weekly and on the same day if poss "so i dont forget" And they are so much better because of regular feeding, honestly feeding is the make all of any plant.

While working in the rose bed i couldnt help but think about the advice given ref buying roses many years ago and it was to try and buy perfumed ones, As a rose without any perfume was little more than a costly weed.

Well as i went from rose to rose the perfume was really strong and i feel well worth both the extra cost and taking the advice given by an older gardener who"s now dead" but his words are well alive and so i'd like to pass the same advice on to anyone who's thinking of roses for thier garden.

We've friends coming over tonight for a BBQ and im sure one or two will wonder around the garden and i hope smell the roses before they smell the coffee!

my garden isnt huge but every night i take a wonder with a cup of coffee and pick off the dead heads and pluck out the weeds.
I only have one rose in my garden which self seeded hasnt produced any flowers yet. so am excitingly waiting to see what happenes.
I do love roses and am often dissapointed to find they have no smell, my mum has two in her garden and have the most wonderful flower and smell every time i go to her house i go and admire and take a deep breath.. wonderful

    Hi Claire,
Nice to hear you like me wonder around your garden armed with a coffee in hand and the keen eye for whats going on in the garden.

Take last night, after all our guest had gone home i did make a coffee and started to collect all the dirty plates, and also put the plastic chairs away "when i saw this toad sitting on the celler steps" t was happy to just sit there and have a look at what i was doing,
We dont get many toads really in our garden so he was more than welcome,

ref your mum's rose and the perfume smell!
your building up future memory now,

That perfume will alway bring back a memory.

Lets hope over the next few months your single rose flowers and has a perfume all of it's own.
