Have you ever seen or thought of some idea's for showing off your gardening skills in as much as flower display?
For a while now ive tried to get that second look at my displays around my house and garden, ie ive an old 15feet high ladder leaning against the barn wall and ive 6 troughs full of geraniums, each trough is placed onto a rung so the full ladder has a display of ivy geraniums flowering away,
Ive an old colender (i bought at a junk shop for next to nothing) and this is ideal for use as an hanging basket, "its got all the holes already drilled out for drainage and for the sake of fixing some chain to help the hanging! the jobs done,
Ive an old pair of my wornout gardening boots sitting outside my shed filled with compost and
pansy plants "all flowering away happily.
And last of all ive an old wheel barrow "minus" the wheel full of tagets, sitting in front of my potting shed,
If i had the money i'd by an old english pay-phone box and this i'd use as a mini greenhouse at the driveway gates.
Have you any idea's to pass on ref re-cycled unusual planting containers?
Washing machine drum. I have one with a Carex grass in it and another about to be planted with ?? I have an old aluminium pot which has lost it's handle, it was great for pasta as it didn't take long to heat the water. I will put holes in it, OH says a 6 inch nail should do it. Paint tins, coffee tins, sweetie jars, aquarium with a leak, dress ankle boots I've got the lot. Can't afford new containers.
Having a disabled child we have lots of bits given to us to aid mobility ect, When no longer in use we ring to send them back and are told to take them to our tip as they cannot be given to any one else. So out in the garden they go with pots or tubs in, on, or around i even use the one for round the toilet to rest laundry basket on to save my poor old back. great idea with the ladder will now be on the look out for one.
I've planted up drainage pipes, old toilets, milk churn, chimney pots, hollowed out tree trunk and a bird cage.
I have two 1950's concrete urinal troughs(good drainage) about 5ft long, I have planted Roma toms in one and herb's in the other.
Ps I mean herb's like sage ect not any part of herb's an......... or toms for that matter
Always looking for inspiration, do you think people could post pics of these items??
My dad has an old milk churn which looks realy good.
Hi punpun.Love your ladder idea.I considered using a ladder as a climbing trellis, don,t know why i didn,t.I love recycling "junk".
Clay pipes,(chimney pots are hard to find, and expensive).I,ve planted some hostas into a couple of brass umbrella holders, and a brass coal bucket.A sink,of course.water butts,I keep winning them.Ive also got a christmas tree shaped tea light holder, that I,ve used like an obelisk, with ivy.Oh and not forgetting some daisy shaped tea light holders that I,ve hung on the wall.Gardeners are such a resourceful bunch.
