Really pleased to see one in my mums garden today.Last time was back in 2006,(I think).
I saw one in my garden on Friday. I didn't realise what it was at first. I told my dad that it looked like a mini humming bird and then went to get my moth book. I was so surprised when I saw that was its name. Such a lot of moths have very appropriate names don't they.
The first time my husband and I saw a humming bird moth was on holiday in Rumania. There were plenty there, and we were fascinated by them.
A few weeks after the holiday, I saw one on our patio, it was hovering round the potted geraniums.
When I called my husband, he didn`t believe me at first.
It seemed such an odd coincidence!
Almost like it had followed us back home.
That's cleared up my query! I've got absolutely loads of them in my garden this year, especially in the lavender and I'd been wondering for ages what they were. Now I know! Thanks!
They are unique aren't they? Just like tiny humming birds.
They are stunning.I havent seen him since.
I took these photos this evening [Friday] as the moths were out. Not sure what kind they are. During the day my lillies are swarming with hoverflies and at night - these.
Perhaps someone can tell me which moths they are?
not seen any humming bird moths but we have had several other hawk moths about this year. I seem to see more moths than butterflies.
I'm no expert but Magpie comes to mind as they're black and white. Check out ukmoths.org.uk website as they have search facilities.
..thank you for the link. Gosh, there are millions of them

Your moth looks like a 'Silver Y', I get quite a lot in my garden and visits from Hummingbird Hawkmoths are also on the increase, which is very good news!
