    Hi,
It's been a really hot one again today and just like the french neighbours ive been getting up and out in the garden by 6am when its cool enough to do gardening, and again about 7pm start to do a little more during the cooler evening.

It's really nice having a summer every year and it really helps to keep any heating cost down but the gardens really do need a good plan ref watering during these hot periods, if ive learnt anything from the french locals "it's to save water not only the dish water (this goes from bowl in the sink to the garden) but collect as much as possible from the downpours,

The rain water is free so why not use it?

Ive three peach trees and this year they are growing well,
peaches love the hot waether but dont like to much rain and as we've had very little rain for 4 weeks the peaches are looking good, as are the verious plums around the orchard.

But its not only the garden plants that can take something out of this hot dry spell in prep for the winter, we humans can to, ive been fitting metal shutters on the outside of the window frames ready for both the winter and also to keep the house inside cool during the hot weather.

So im enjoying the summer both as a retired person in his garden but also as one revamping an old country house.

Lifes for doing what makes you feel good.

That is good news, I know some people 'en vacance' near you, so they will be having a good time. Here in the Thames Valley we get lots of dark clouds, but alas no rain to fill the water butts.

On a neighbour theme, mine are Sicilian. Some years ago I dug a frog pond and Giovanni lent over the fence fondly remembering his fathers smallholding where they had a huge water tank. Once a year they cleaned out the tank, in the bottom were hundreds of frogs. So out would come the frying pan, it was a popular event. smiley - doh

Sounds good to me, frying pan and all.

One thing the french do is to have the evening meal outside and spend hours just talking and enjoyinga bottle of wine while the children play.

I sometimes wonder if we've lost the plot when it comes to the simple things in life such as the family connection.
