I don`t like these new `mini` propagation units that seem to be all that is available nowadays, expensive, small & limited. Any one got any ideas as to how to make one? or a better, more versatile alternative.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

I have two propagation units and with the right planning they do give seeds that extra boost to germinate. Another alternative would be to place seed trays on top of polystyrene strips (give base of tray protection from cold windowsills) and then seal the seed trays in plastic bags. Once gernination takes place remove the plastic bags.
You could use under-soil warming cable, and sit your seed-trays on that.
I bought one in this last winter and had no luck at all with Pepper seeds, probably because the pepper seeds needed more heat to germinate than the unit could provide.
Would that be right?
