I intend to make a wildlife pond approx 5m x 5m, to be fed from the downpipe of a nearby building.I would like eventually to have newts. Can anyone recommend a suitable site or book, please?
There are several books specifically about widlife ponds on Amazon:
The first 3 are priced between 50p and £4. Not a lot when you're about to spend a fortune on a liner.
You can 'look inside' them, and see which is 'your style'. One looks at though it's readable by kiddies. One doesn't have many pictures. It depends what style of book you want.
You can read even more of some these books, on-line, on Google Books.
The Louise Bardsley book is here:
The Chris McLaren book is here:
You can use the search to see exactly what they have to say about Newts.
Some general purpose wildlife books cover ponds. Creating a Wildlife Garden by Bob Gibbons has 16 pages about 'water and wetlands'.
Thank you very much Gary, I will take a look at these books.
build it... and they will come, good luck and enjoy! i love wildlife ponds.
There's lots of info on the Â鶹Éç website too.
Put wildlife pond into the search box and see what you find.
Don't forget to put a ramp and beach into all ponds so that amphibians and hedgehogs can get out and don't drown.
