I hereby declare nominations are now open for message board awards, 2008.
Here are some of my denominations to get the ball rolling, please add your own categories and nominations as you see fit, no nasties on this please, let's have a cheerful thread to end the year on.
BEST, MOST EDUCATIONAL AND WELL-KEPT THREAD goes to Prof. Yakkram, for her diligent, tireless work trying to keep us educated and amused on the Academy thread.
For MOST ENTERTAINING THREAD I nominate Dahlia Delight in the Garden Clinic section, for the 'What is it?'plant i.d. that went on and on and on and nearly drove several of us nuts. Her prize is a lovely bunch of Michaelmas Daisies (or are they penstemons...)
BEST CONTRIBUTORS this could have a few sub-categories and depends which bit you read. For answering questions tirelessly and correctly, imho, AlinaW and Herisabee buzz around being very helpful. Maybe people who frequent the lottie section and inspirations could add their suggestions?
Well hopefully that gets the ball rolling. And for when it comes, a happy new year to everyone.
hotsunlover - the 'plocket award' for most persistent poster.

I think, while I'm here chatting to myself, I might nominate MalanD for Great Growing Advice, can't remember exact threads but some inspirational stuff on growing coriander and chillies. There are lots of good posters on the lottie board, but as I don't read it that often I am hoping they will come over here and nominate each other.
Wittiest posters, there are so many, but I would particularly like to nominate Nooj's concise offerings and also Greeneddy (is she a man, is she a woman)who I also find very witty

Oh yes, and of course, I almost forgot, nomination for best gardening cat, goes to...Stilton.
I second the nomination for Flumpet! I loved the "upside down basket" thread!
Perhaps we should also have a category for the most moderated poster! OOOHHHH, can't think who should get that though!
Shall we have an award for square foot gardening or not?

hi everyone
to nominate for an award, what about David K for his invaluable advice for growing Sweet Peas
his patience at having to repeat many posts was amazing and many of us grew lovely SPs last year due to him sharing his expert knowlegde

I don't think that you could get better than:-
PLOTTY (U2369900)
on the allotment board. Despite ill health he gives us regular good advice and photos of his plot which encourages us all to get ours up to his standard - regrettably without success on my part.
I'd like to nominate Monty for triumphing over adversity and still posting on here at times and keeping in touch.
And Obelixx for always being calm and reasonable as well as knowlegeable, and never losing her temper like wot I do

I vote for Obelixx for the "Most interesting posts about Belgium" award!
It's not one of thoopse dodgy telephone voting things is it?
I think we all know to avoid those now.

Um, no, nuffin dodgy nooj. I just receive 10p for every vote cast, tee hee. Forgot you Venus MT, to be included in the most witty posters nominations.
I just thought of a new category -
Most Friendly Poster to Newbies.
I nominate Amazing Scotlass (and her many other names). She is always friendly and always offers around drinks and snacks to anyone who wanders in to the potting shed.
Thanks for that Aspidistra, lets home I get a seconder. I second all the other nominations.
Ps Aspi, your smoked trout is in the post!!!!!
I second you Amazing.

And....................more and more please.......
When do I get my pedestal. I would like one ten feet tall, with lots of curlyques.

We need someone to make some trophys!
how about the 'Golden Seed Award'?!
ps hootanannie, what is a curlyques?
Shouldn't you be boiling your haggis or whatever, Amazing, instead of shamelessly courting votes?
x
Nooj we have haggis on 29th January, Burns Day.
Vote for amazing, she is wonderful. She always answers when she knows. Welcome all the newcomers with a drink. Knows bugger all about gardening but has a lovely garden. And I provide most of the food for the shed and parties. Em, em, em, and can take good pictures. And I'm Scottish, Yeh.
The curly things at the top of a greek column, like this.

Hello hootanannie,
I bet most people don't know that it was the Scottish who invented the new year as it is now. So I will raise a glass at 12 midnight tonight to thank your race for another excuse to get merry and again at 1 o'clock because of the time difference with Scotland. Slaintheva I hope I spelled that properly.
Hi lionRedwood, where abouts are you? In Europe I guess.
Saying is Slainte Mhath, gaelic for Good Health. We pronounce it Slange ma'ha. Cheers to you too.
Got that one wrong, we say Slangava. My mouth was getting it wrong. Maybe it needs a wee whisky.
I nominate Tee-Gee for great advise and excellent website. Deserves a medal !
hi yes i second that, Tee-Gee's website is excellent! i find it very easy to use
Is TeeGee an allotment board person?
I think I might nominate Janerowena as possibly the Chattiest Boarder with the Best Stories, as she is a devotee and often first one up in the morning, regaling us with stories of her mispent life.

I've found ShadyLady to be one of the most knowledgeable plants people on the boards, giving lots of detailed planting advice and she's excellent with plant ID's (especially my tree that I had spend over a year trying to identify). I haven't seen her around for a couple of months now though, I hope she hasn't left us for good. She definately deserves a mention in the new years honours
Hello Rach . Did you see I have been dispensing advice for you on how to buy a new computer elsewhere (I think you may have to chill out to find it? ).
I feel you should be nominated for Services to Animals or some such thing.
and the award for the poster with the most names go to Gridgardener or whatever you're alias is this week!
Well I don't know about that, Borderbabe, because Amazingscotlass seems to be catching up fast, she changes her name as often as her frocks, I think she is Hootannie at the moment so she could be in for a second award nomination!

Hello Mrs Christmas Cake!
Thank you, yes I have left a chilly message for you
PC is very pshychotic (haven't time to check spelling?) so not much time to reply to things
The sunshine has come out and I'm being dragged off to Marlborough for the afternoon for some fresh air. Stilton is very pleased with his nomination and wants to leave a message later PC allowing.
JRo should definately get the "constant gardener" award for being out in the garden the most and ever present on the board offering excellent advice both of the gardening and life variety
Amazing should also get one for being the most welcoming, social and caring, she is always there for us with a mug of coffee and a bacon buttie!
Rach xx
No-one loves me.
Is there an award for being a Monty Stalker?
I'll nominate you for being the best-est Monty Stalker of the Year Nooj
I would like to nominate Lottie Lady for her limitless help to new and old posters alike! She does a great job and deserves an award!
I will second Apple's nomination for Lottie.
Thankyou Apple.
Is the prize a pair of ivy handcuffs and a restraining order, by any chance???
Ooops, sorry
I would third Lottiwe for anthing - she is an all round good egg, as we used to say.
I wonder what on earth that means?
It is a date with MD Nooj .... can you manage to get away?
PS
Sorry forgot to add, Mopnty insisted that it was a 'virtual date' ... sorry about that!
Apologies to Monty too - I gave him a name change!!
My finger slipped from 'o' to 'p' before I hit ''n - or some such excuse!!!!
Oh dear this 3 min rule ...................
I'd like to suggest some more categories.
Boarder who you'd most like to invite you round for a meal - amazingscotslass, malanD. I was going to put that the other way round but I've just seen asl's pics in the Potting Shed.
Best rants on the TV board - KenSmart. Particularly impressive for their maintenance of correct grammar & spelling. Honourable mention to remefrank for his Chelsea rant.
I was going to nominate Tee-Gee for best resource, but someone's already done it. This is his site, Aspi
In the same category, Sakkarin's search facility
and the design board photogallery
Happy New Year everyone
And when would you like to come for dinner, Throtnot?
I'll second ken Smart!
Grumpy and clever and entertaining all at once!
Difficult to do, but he does it!
I'll be in touch next time we go to Scotland, asl. Has to be the beef wellington, mind. We'll bring a bottle or 3!
Three will do fine, but what will you drink? Just give me a days warning.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
