Hello All and welcome to the Final Photo Gallery Thread of 2008 (by me anyway)
This is purely a thread for listing the links to boarder's garden (and inevitably wildlife/pet/oddity) photos.
If you aren't on the list and want to be, just post a link to your album as a reply. When posting a link for the first time please make sure the link is to an album and not an individual .jpg. For more detailed instructions on how to set up photos on the world wide web please see
Some of these links to albums look to be quite old, and many of the people unfortunately don't post here anymore.
I'm afraid I won't be around much anymore, so someone will have to take over the baton and keep this going into next year. A lot of people find it a valuable resource on the MBs.
Happy viewing!

Mich where are you going, are you just leaving here? If so why? Have you got lots work on. I suppose you must have.
Has that worked, mich, or have I missed a bit off the end? Oh, I've just tried it in preview, and it seemed to work, so fingers crossed. Not many in there, only worked out how to post photos recently.
Hope you're just leaving the 'board photos' job, and not the boards.
Cheers
Eddy
All those names I used to know, all those people who used to post pictures.
I spent all day one day just looking at pictures!
I remember them all too. but it is good that we have lots of new posters.
Not on the list but maybe this will be ok

just pinging so i can keep this on my list,so i can veiw at my leisure
Wow! No wonder your boots are dirty!
Your pond looks gret, dirty boots. I remember when you started it.
I am not on the list. Must do a new album for it.
A job for tonight.
Good work all!
There's a few people other than Amazing conspicuous by their absence!
Toonia and TT for starters!
Who's going to take over the charge then? Its not that much work to do it - it took me 45 minutes last night. I'm sure there's a less long winded way of doing it too.

Thanks Michelle. Since I started the gallery a few years ago I don't mind taking it back on over the winter when I hope some of the new regulars will have time to compile albums for us to share.
It'll sit well with our proposed garden visits gallery but I can't promise to keep it maintained strictly up to date during the growing season.
Thank you Obelixx, I was thinking, (just a little), of taking this on, but hope not to have much spare time. You are a .
That's not a pond DB, it's a lake. Fabulous.
I'm setting up another photobucket account and was going to give you a new link before you updated the gallery, what was it my Mum used to say about good intentions?
Wow, dirtyboots, that's the same size as our village pond but isn't it just glorious watching the water and surrounds taking on a life of their own? It just breathes life into an area, doesn't it?
Thanks for the nudge, Mich!
Here are a few of my favourites:
Anyone is welcome to snout around all my albums though, I have no secrets (sadly)
I'm not surprised they are your favourites. That bronzey autumn one...and the fennel...and the house...
I could sort mine out and put them on but they'd have to come with a government health warning!
Just had a look toonia, you have some lovely plants,it all looks great, thanks for sharing them.
OMG just read the opening thread again and realised its supposed to be pics of MY garden. Well, no I didn't exhibit at Chelsea, I don't own Levens Hall, and I don't have a h oliday home in Keukenhoff. . Sorry, I only recently discovered how to post photos, and haven't got ANY of my garden in there yet.
I think you want this thread for the ones you've got, Greeneddy:
Just pinging to remind me to look at these when I eventually have time

Thanks Heatherbelle, we are really enjoying it,seems to change daily. The nicest thing so far this week was a kingfisher sitting for about 5 minutes just waiting for the sight of some fish. I felt sorry for him because there isn't any in there
Maybe one day eh!

Many thanks

Beautiful!
You have a gorgeous garden in a gorgeous location, twisted hazel. I'm quite jealous!
Mich
Twisted hazel, copied from another thread, message for you
It really is best not to post pictures of your children in such a public forum. If you want to though, you could just put them on photobucket when the chosen recipitant(spl) is online and then remove it when you log off.
This is just advice but please, be carefulÂ
Sad, but true.
Cheers

Hi Mich. Thanks for the wonderful job you've done. Yes, I noticed that I did not have a garden link, but I wanted to do some organizing first, so that I would have a good running record of how my garden changed through the season and I thought that once I did that I would post a link. I'm not a methodical planner/designer as far as the garden goes, I generally go as the spirit moves me, but the foremost thing I strive for as I go along is to have colour across the garden right through the season, and I wanted to see how I've managed with that now that I've gone through 3 full gardening seasons since we moved to this house. So what I've put together is essentially from Spring 2007 to Spring 2008. This will be my guide as to what else I might want to do when spring 2009 rolls in and another season starts.
Hi TT - Some fabulous plants there. I think I need you to put names to your roses, clems, birds, butterflies and a few other chice plants please.
Hi TT
Great album of pics. Loved the huge clumps of aquilegias- why dont mine end up like that!
Do you have a slug problem? seems unlikely with the hostas looking good too. J.

Hi TT,
Some fabulous pictures in there in your lovely garden. It genuinely cheered me up on what has otherwise been a miserable day. Especially liked to see some of your garden visitors.
Thanks v much. You can't possibly think you have much to do next season surely?

Thanks Mich and all for the encouraging comments. Nothing to do next season? You mean I have to move again to start a new garden?
Hi Obbie. Hadn't "seen" you for awhile so I was afraid we had "lost" you. That would have been very I'll try to put some names on. Naming the roses won't be a problem, but I might have to do some back tracking to get the correct names tagged to the appropriate clem.
Yes, I have the dreaded slugs to deal with here. I do night patrols with a sharp pair of scissors - if you get my drift - and I've used the beer trap thingy, but they seem to be getting wise to it. This past season it wasn't as effective as in the past, so by the end of the season my hostas looked pretty chewed up. I'm going to try the garlic-mix spray next season. I'm not all that keen on the slug pellets.

hi TT,
no don't move, just sit back, enjoy and potter!
As for the slug pellets, how do you feel about the "organic" ones that are essentially only lethal to molluscs? Me and a lot of my fellow biologists have a huge problem with the soil association definition of "organic" but to my mind these ones are about as bad as a beer trap. Are you able to get them over your way?
Thanks again
Mich

Hi Mich. I've never really looked for that kind of slug pellets. I never liked the idea of using the "regular" pellets so I just turned away from that approach to slug control. The night patrol with a flashlight and sharp scissors, and the beer trap thingy has always been effective until this past season, so I never paid attention to what kind of pellets might be available. I'll take a look next time I pop into my favourite GC. They (GCs/nurseries) are heavily into Christmas stuff now, but they still have a lot of bulbs going, and they should have started discounting the prices around this time, so I'm going to be popping around soon to see what kind of bargains might be there to be had. The ground hasn't frozen yet so it's not too late to put some more bulbs in. I'll let you know. Are those "organic" pellets really effective and harmless to everything else?
They're supposed to be: They certainly don't contain the stuff that kills hedgehogs, but whether they'd be harmful to wildlife in large quantities - and whether they're at all effective - I don't know.
You could look out for this stuff too: - it's sort of gritty & sucks the slime out of things (if you get it all over your fingers they go all dry & horrible) so slugs don't like to cross it. That's the theory, anyway.
And there are always nematodes, if you can get them over there (but not at this time of year - they need to be applied when the soil temperature's above a certain level): They tend to be expensive though, and I find them very fiddly to use.

Thanks Juliet. Yes; I get nematodes here. I used it for the first time this past season (in spring and again late September/early Oct)on my lawn to control the white grub. I started the year with a very bad infestation of white grub and the nematodes seems to have been effective against them. I didn't know it was also good for using against slugs. I might give it a go for that purpose when the "slug season" starts, as well as on going with the garlic mix spray. I understand that it is quite effective in keeping the little beasties off your hostas.
You have to get different nematodes for each creature, so you'll need specific slug ones for your slugs (sorry if you knew that - wasn't quite clear from your message). I haven't tried the slug ones, but I use ant nematodes to try to keep down ant numbers here. Difficult to say how effective they are, as we had so many millions of ants to start with!
