Hi All, Does anyone know of the best/easiest/cheapest way to stain sleepers?
I am planning on using new hardwood sleepers such as oak or Australian jarrah for a very low retaining wall/ flower bed. I don't like the bright new look of these woods though and we are using slate chippings and charcoal pavers for edging, so I would like to colour the sleepers a pale worn grey look.
Would not want to actually paint them since they will be edging for lawn and flower beds and don't really think that will work. Just a stain or finish that easy to apply to tone down the pale browns and still see the grain.
Any ideas of types/brands/methods would be great! Thanks
Deck stain works really well on sleepers, don't know if there is a grey though, its very easy to apply too.
Nearly all of the modern stains available for garden use are all water based, all the toxic ones have now been taken off the market , read the instructions if you wash the brush out after using the stain with water then its ok, they are all good and reliable and work fine, best to buy a lighter one and give the timber more than one coat, colour wise black is available and i have used white but they had a problem with it if its available then mix them to make grey.
