    What are peoples thoughts?
I finished work early today went out into the garden and proceeded to watch 2 little field mice running around the garden in the sunshine!
They were really cute and I'm not sure if they were a couple or 2 singles!
My dilemma is do I do nothing and possibly run the risk of being over run with them or do I put some poisen down? What do people think?smiley - ermsmiley - ermsmiley - erm

Get a cat. My 2 will kill anything ! I wouldn't poison them in case they get eaten by an owl or something similar. You could try a trap instead.

I leave them alone it all part of the big circle, they could provide food for the Owls or Hawks, nature has away of providing enought for every one as long as we leave it alone.

    Thanks FA and VG
Cats do visit the garden and because I have seen mice before I leave them to it where as at one time I would have been out there shooing them off the garden.
I do share the same thoughts as you valleygardener and to my knowledge we have mice rats moles birds and the odd deer visiting the garden. I suppose I was a little bit more concerned than usual because there were 2 mice at once plus they were next to the house.

Hi Plantaholic, if you got a good look at the mice try doing a google image search for field mouse and then for house mouse - they are quite different (house mice are bigger & greyer). The ones you saw are likely to be field mice, & therefore unlikely to go into your house, so you probably don't need to panic!

I agree with Juliet. Field mice only come indoors usually when it is very cold. It's the house mice that need extermination. Our cats keep us mouse free.

Thanks Juliet and Goldilocks for getting back to me.
I did have a real good look at them as I walked to within a couple of feet of them and I am pretty sure they were field mice but I will do as you say and do a google just to be certain

Ahh Natholi Clap - I have got a little mousey friend who lives under the steps in my garden - I only ever see the one, and he is really cute with big black eyes, he scampers over to the big fat pigeon cafe ( bird table at ground level as big fat pigeon is too big for my bird table) grabs some seeds and then scampers back to his home. He never comes near the house, although I think he ate my peas as only 3 remain - but I have lots more to sow so never mind!
