I am putting a planter measuring approx 3 foot by 1 foot in a sunny position on my patio and am looking for suggestions on what flowering plants to use to provide continuous colour throughout the summer. The only major restriction is that the planter is below a shed window so supports cannot be used and the maximum foliage height needs to be less than 18 inches
Hia! I keep looking at this and think the best thing you could do is go to the garden centre and see what they have available at the moment. There's a lovely choice of bedding plants available these days and as height is your problem you could get some lovely trailing plants to go in the planter. Perhaps a few bright geraniums for a tiny bit of height. Keep nipping the flower heads off the plants when they are finished and you should have a lovely display all summer.
You didn't say the C word Plocket
I didn't dare!!! But there would be one suitable - C. Hanajima - got one in my garden and I've high hopes, or rather little hopes!!!
Hi - I'd just get down your local g. centre and get some annual bedding. Bacopa is great - its traily but not spindly, with white or mauve small flowers and will flower from May til frosts kill it off. It looks beautiful with million bells, either mauve or apricot (called terracotta), which again flower all summer long. For foliage, helichrysum is great, no flowers, but small slightly furry foliage in grey, green or gold. For a few upright accents in with these trailers, you could try pelargoniums, heliotrope or fuschias, or even some curly parsley for foliage only. When winter comes, switch to small trailing ivies and winter flowering pansies and your sorted for flowers all year long.
hi thanks for your very welcome suggestions,i will certainly use your ideas thanks
