We can tell that autumn has arrived out here, driving down the country roads the verges are banked high with the pinks and white of Cosmos, the sky is a very intence blue and the light has a golden quality about it.It is chilly in the mornings now and the leaves are droping from the trees.
I hope that you all get the rain that you want this year, if I could I would send you some of the rain we had (since christmas we have been having torrental rain and floods and the dams are overflowing).
If you are thinking of growing butternuts or pumpkin this year remember that they take up alot of room(I planted 3 butternut seeds and they have taken over my garden (OH says it's like having Trifids growing out there) but on the plus side I have lots of butternuts for the winter, ave. weight 2.5kg.
We are busy designing next summers garden and soucing new composting containers and have lots to do shredding vegitation and cutting up branches that we pruned earlier in the season, for next years BBQ's.
I will enjoy reading about and looking at the pictues of everyones gardens while mine is dorment.
Wishing you many happy gardening hours x chris

Hello no1puddin, where abouts are you? We spent 18 glorious years in SA and reading about the cosmos on the verges just bought it all back! Oh how I miss having hibiscus & poinsettia as shrubs in the garden, and busy lizzies that just grew like weeds! I have a jacaranda in my conservatory, but doubt it will ever have a flower on it! Also a strelitzia and small hibiscus. So miss the tibouchinas, just seeing their colourful flowers in the distance! I also remember the heavy rainstorms! Hope you save plenty of branches for your braai! Enough now, I am beginning to feel positively homesick!!smiley - sadface

Hi Tibouchina, We are in Benoni. You never know maybe your Jacaranda will suprise you, they have been declared a grade 2 weed out here and we are not allowed to sell or plant them anymore (shame) we will have to go to Pretoria in the spring to see their massed colour.

Hi No1! I've got so many lovely images in my head now. The weather sounds just lovely now too. Is there any chance you can post some photos coz I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see your garden.

I can't believe they are now classing them as weeds. Someone told me they were going to remove the trees in Pretoria, I hope thats not true, it was such a lovely sight to see when they were in bloom! I know Benoni slightly, we actually started out in a place called Orkney!
