A piece of the Med in Mitcham...?

    We're planning on overhauling our back yard - currently a rather unpleasant patch of concrete -later this spring and as my partner was born in the Balearics we're very keen on the idea of a Mediterranean style walled garden.

    We've got the white washed walls, we've got the pots etc etc... but what to put in them?!

    The yard has one shady wall, two partially shaded and only one in full sun during summer. All plants will be potted.

    Any ideas on any Mediterranean - or even better, Spanish - plants, shrubs, flowers etc. that could fair well in a London climate?

    I don't even know where to start...!
