I am a novice gardener and my garden backs on to a wood the ground level here is higher than my garden and is causing a problem with fencing. I have thought of raised beds made with sleepers but I get a lot of leaf fall/ branch debris espeacially from a large oak tree. The garden is south fencing and this part of the garden is over 100 feet any ideas?

Google around for designing with slopes or go to the library and check garden design books. A tree surgeon should be able to clean up the nearest trees so they don't shed branches/twigs/debris in dangerous quantities but have a word with the owner first to get permission or maybe even ask them to take action. They would be liable for any damage caused by a big branch or trunk falling on your property.

Also, have a look at Plantaholic's pictures in the New Garden Gallery thread. Her garden slopes down to woods and a stream but it's the same basic design problem.

Thank you, unfortunately stuck with the trees as it is a conservation area owned by a school but the thread you have given me has been a great help espeacially as we also share the same soil type.
Also loved looking at the other pics for inspiration.
    Thanks again

Even conservation trees sometimes need health check ups. If they're shedding enough branches to damage your property you have the right to expect their owners to have them sorted out. They don't have to be felled unless they are terminally sick. You could contact your local council environmental officer for advice.
