Ok I'll start the ball rolling: it's going to be a busy weekend what with swimming lessons tomorrow, then M&D are coming over and we are going to celebrate dad's birthday (I've baked a dairy-free cake for dad's diet - scary!!!). They will stay for dinner and overnight. Then of course we are heading to Ness gardens (The Wirral?) to meet up with Margi (and Slugger if he can face leaving the lottie for a weekend and dares to look out for us). I'm going to try to remember charged batteries so I can take lots of photos, and I'm going to look out for blue hair stuff at the chemist tomorrow!!!!!

    So what are your plans?

This weekend's activities are all a bit weather dependent.

Tonight - No GW so I'll be in the garage at some point doing prep work.

Tomorrow Morning I am doing some educational childcare (aka watching the cricket). Afternoon will be either doing a comprehensive review of the stuff in the greenhouse, or preferably shifting soil around the garden with little helper. Must remember to record the rugby.

Sunday brings the delight of a trip to the tip, followed by a visit to a newly discovered Wilcos for more gravel trays, plant labels, cheapie arches etc (will pay by cash and somehow sneek into garage corner to avoid Mrs C kicking off). Then back to do family walk and hopefully outside stuff. After dark will be doing more sowings with little helper. Must remember to record rugby, football and Formula 1.

Sport/kids/gardening - My life's a bit repetitive at the moment. Still it makes me smiley - biggrin

Good luck with your swimming lessons Plocket! Once you get your confidence you'll take to it like a duck to water smiley - laughsmiley - laughsmiley - laugh

Hi Plocket. Mrs FA will probably be working tomorrow morning so I'll be looking after the sprogs until lunchtime.

I'm hoping the weather picks up a bit for the afternoon so that I can get out and carry on digging the front borders (I got about ½ way last weekend so I was hoping to finish it this weekend). I've just seen the forecast though and it doesn't look good smiley - sadface.

If not, who knows what we'll do. It's rained for most of this week so everywhere's pretty soggy. We might have to go and visit the outlaws tomorrow afternoon if we can't think of anything else to do !!

Sunday is again very weather dependant. I'll see what the day brings before I decide what to do.

    Cheers
    FA x

    Hi Plocket,

smiley - erm tomorrow morning take my mum to the supermarket and in the afternoon to the xxxxx th GC.
OH and I have been talking about wooden trellis whole week. I had dreams of WT around my terrace filled with clematis smiley - winkeye , sweet peas, honeysuckle, roses, you name it.
This afternoon we've been driving around a bit, to see prices smiley - steam and afterwards tried to see if we would be able to get metal pins to keep the trellis, in the soil. I'm afraid we'll have to cancel these plans. The concrete pannels which are already there, seem to have big concrete fundaments as well.
I'm thinking now about painting the concrete panels, putting wooden obelisks with clematisses, sweet peas, honeysuckle,....
Probably a lot cheaper as well. So hopefully I'll find some paint and obelisks.
I also want to check in the GC if the small cherry tree which I bought last year is self-polinating. If not, I will buy a 2nd one.
I would also like to move around some plants, because we expanded the borders. But apparently it will freeze quite hard saturday night, so I'm still hesitating.
In the evening I have a small rehearsal -> polyphonic music.
On sunday morning OH has a concert from one of his pupils. Meanwhile I will drive to my cousin, he has some free buxus for me!
Afternoon, garden?? Walk?? read a book?? Sing?? I don't know yet. See how my mood will be. Kids are with ex for the WE.

Have a lot of fun at Ness Gardens. Am looking forward to see pictures of nice flowers and 1 purple haired and 1 blue haired lady! smiley - hug

Setting up my brand spanking new scanner which arrived this week!! Look out for Juliet's photos coming soon ... well, as soon as I've worked out how to use it ... next month maybe!

Also meeting a friend at Ely cathedral on Sunday - we're going to visit the stained glass museum there, which I think was a farsighted choice of places to go, given that we're finally forecast the snow in this area this weekend! Don't somehow think I'll be able to get much gardening done ...

I put my pin in the A4A map on a roundabout on the A14 to give people a rough idea of where I am!

Hope you have a nice time at Ness, my M & D live up past there somewhere.

The weather has been awful the last few days (& we've been busy) so if it is nice it would be good to spend it in the garden. I did pot up what I thought would be about 15 dahlia's on Wed, but it turned out to be 40, + some ginger and canna's.
M'spouse is taking No 8 shopping for a skirt - (this is a miracle) - "it doesn't mean she's a girl though, she's going to wear it over trousers)(its a camoflage type), but I suppose it is a start !!!
Sunday: usual swimming stuff, washing, taxi-ing, and if its not snowing a bit in the garden.

Just ordered 100m of geotex for the new dining area, but it won't be here till next week. Still waiting for the chainsaw to remove the stumps from the 'stairway to heaven'.
    Photos here:

    Hiya Plocket,

thought the swimming lessons were for LP first of all. Oh, you won't know yourself when you have accomplished learning to swim. go for it. I think Lorna's having a go too.

As for me, the rugby is on tomorrow. Got a ticket for the Wales game, so will be freezing my @ss for a couple of hours. If I get up early, there is an exhibit of downunderers trying to recruit ppl to go there, and the thing is on near Lansdowne road, tempted to drop in with the miserable weather as it is. www.downunder.ie so tempted.OH? what OH?!
As for gardening, it's much to miserable for me to be out and about in it. I still intend to layer my montana, not just yet!!!

Oh, Oh, I'm building another bird box. I have it all marked out. I want to take before and after photos of the process...I've just noticed good links on the A4A wildlife board. So, not much on really...have a good day yourself...

Swimming lessons this evening (I've nearly got it, I think!), then the Seedling early to bed. Tomorrow - college in the morning (the Seedling's going to some friends and I'll join them for lunch...) then I hope a bit of time in the garden unless it's snowing. Sunday - I know there was something but can't remember what! It can't have been important, or I'd have remembered, wouldn't I?

    Hi anneliesje
Tummy still a bit iffy but hasn't stopped me going to BQ this morning and buying some eracaceous compost which I have been meaning to do for ages. Last year we had some lovely camellias and rhododendrons in the garden and I am sure they will benefit from a bit of compost.

Quite surprised in BQ and Focus to see that niether had sufficient stocks of compost , bark chippings etc.. in readyness for Spring but both had evidence of dying plants which had been put outside too soon and exposed to the frost!!!!!!!!
I shouldn't be too surprised because you see it every year unfortunately.

A little bit brighter here now and so I may go out into the garden this afternoon if I can stand the cold before we get the snow tomorrow.

The mention of swimming reminds me that I need to start getting fit again for the beginning of my outdoor working season - driving thumping big horses at one of the royal palaces for the visitors carriage rides. Just finished making an 8'x8' snakes and ladders game for a friend to use as a training aid at work and am glad to see the back of it. HWMBO knew that I was really cranked off yesterday so has given me some cash to go and spend in Kingston. Whoopee! Feel a pair of shoes coming on.
Does anyone know what to do with sweetcorn seedlings that are already 8 inches high? They are on the top of the wardrobe and i don't think they are verey happy. It's all his idea as he wanted to get things moving!

My next 20 bags of manure are ready to collect - probably this afternoon! Lots of driving lessons for No2 son. His test is Friday week and next weekend OH and I are off to Paris for a much needed break so this is the last chance for intensive lessons - 3 point turns ok, reversing round corners ok, parallel parking dodgy and ditto reversing into a parking bay, so more of that tomorrow. Otherwise - at the risk of upsetting some, lie ins (one already completed) and a good long read of the Sunday papers in the conservatory. Bliss!

Penpergwm Plants is very near thats nice and sells plants.

Veddw House is different but nice

    The Nurtons

Didn't like it much 1st time round but went in summer and really liked quite a few of the areas, also has nice plants that are good prices.

Also Usk Open Gardens weekend is usually good, with quite a few really nice gardens.
We also have a reasonable amount of NGS Gardens open in the summer.

Powis Castle is 2 hrs away, and Aberglasny & Botanic Gardens is about 1 1/2 hrs away, but we do have some nice mountains and nice walks, and Abergavenny is known as the Gateway to Wales !!

Well this is a what have done, which is not much on the gardening front despite this pm turning out quite nice.

Yesterday did something I've been wanting to do for ages & went to Borough Market up near London Bridge Station. What a foodies heaven - I think they call it a gourmet market. Bought some beautiful Caerphilly cheese, ate fantastic smoked salmon for lunch today, cracking pies for tea tonight & got all emotional discussing tomato sausages that we used to buy in Carlisle market with a Cumbrian!

Today had a nice totter round Kew. Went into the new alpine house which we have only seen from the outside so far. A fantastic buiding. Looked at progress at the lake which has been drained whilst they reinforce the edges & buid a walkway that will go across & somehow take in one of the islands. Smelt the hundred+ hyacinthe in the Pricess of Wales house. Bought 2 orchids that were going cheap.

Came back & Mr beejay washed outside of greenhouse before hosepipe ban comes in (which looks likely to be the beginning of April for Thames Water.

The mention of swimming reminds me that I need to start getting fit again for the beginning of my outdoor working season - driving thumping big horses at one of the royal palaces for the visitors carriage rides. Ìý
So are you at Hampton Court J&P as you mention shopping in Kingston. Lucky you if so.

Oh Beejay you are so lucky! Borough Market is fantastic - did you find the cheese shop just around the corner or so from there? I used to work a stones through from Borough Market and it's a fantastic place.

AND you did Kew! I'm keen to see the new Alpine house as they were still building it when I visited it last year. What did you think of it?
