Anyone have any weird garden features in there garden or know anyone who has one or two. Im trying to see if anyone can beat my feature.
There's a chap in a nearby village who has a miniature Atomium about 3' high in his tiny front garden. His neighbour has the more common wishing well.
The Atomium was built for the World Expo in Brussels in the 50s. It is a structure of 9 metal spheres linked by tubes which contain escalators. Each sphere holds an exhibitoion space and the top one is a restaurant. I have heard two stories about its shape. One says it represents an atom of iron and the other that the spheres represent the 9 provinces of Belgium. Whatever, its is unusual and has just been restored to gleaming glory.
Gosh - I remember visiting it on a school trip in1963 ( I was VERY young !!)
Would love to see it again !!
Mine's not really weird, but has a story. He's a concrete pig called Charlie. He and his brothers were spotted in a shop in Derbyshire by my late parents, who bought three, one each for me and my two brothers. All have travelled with us. Charlie lives with me near Manchester, another with my brother in Leicestershire, and the third in Noordwijk, Holland.
I've not got anything weird in my garden. But I do have three grots and two iron chickens, a collection of butterflies and two concrete cats.

Same here really, an Easter Island head and a gargoyle sticking his tongue out with his fingers poked in his ears!! He always makes me smile!
I have a large anvil, a victorian streetlamp and street sign and an old sewing machine stand complete with pedal that has a top on it which is the ideal size for a bottle of wine and a few glasses. Also a huge chunk of oak which I was assured was an offcut, which also a great seat to sit on and admire my garden while I sip aforementioned wine. while I agree its not WIERD its not your average GC gear either I am about to add the slate bed from an old snooker table {about 2" thick} as a kind of wacky patio in a sunny spot Same here really, an Easter Island head and a gargoyle sticking his tongue out with his fingers poked in his ears!! I've got a Gromit. He is wearing wellies, pushing a wheelbarrow and has just won a Bafta. I know my garden is in capable hands when I'm not there.

I've got a hobit hole. Long story to do with a visit to GW Live and a chat with the lovely bloke who did the hobbit garden there. The following spring, I found an old air raid shelter that had been filled in and paved over in our garden. Had a local firm build a shed with a strong roof and lowered it in. Cut away the front and put a hobbitty front on with circular door and windows, used decking steps to reach down to the floor inside, built up the sides to form a mound, turfed over the top and it's absolutely gorgeous. I love it to bits and I don't care that the kids won't play in it because it's fab to look at.

Erm..... I clicked on the link and got MY photos!
Me too. Strange. Just remembered, there's a garden in France along the E42 between Lille and Dunquerque. When we first used to pass chappy had a few aeronautical things sat on his garden wall. As the years go by it's become a mini military airshow. He has planes and rockets and things that look like bombs all displayed about his garden and its walls and all painted red and silver. Definitely weird.
Now that certainly sounds different Obelixx!

Oh I want a hobithole too! How adorable is that? You've planted it superbly - you weren't a set designer for Lord of the Rings by any chance were you? Oh and if you happen to be in Stoke, they've got Hobit gardens at Trentham Italian Gardens - I'll try and find some piccies to load up.
Four photos of the hobit holes/gardens at Trentham for you Shesinthegarden. They are lovely but not a patch on yours.

Thanks Plocket, they're gorgeous - I've sneaked some ideas! Only wish I had been a set designer on LOTR. Big fan of the films and I had a tour of some of the locations round Wellington when I was there with my work. Fab country.
Ooooh you are SOOOOO lucky! My sister has recently moved to NZ and is threatening to go to where some of the filming was done.

I'm lucky! Ha - YOU could go and visit... for a long time. I wish I wish I wish! If ever my OH lost his job here, we'd look to emigrate rather than move within this country. The people there are great, it's a slower pace of life and there's more space. Now where did I put my passport....

Now I REALLY want a hobbit hole....
Lovely Pics Plocket!

Ah but my sister and I don't get on so the possibilities of a visit are VERY slim. Plus we have a small daughter to consider too.

Hmm, yes. Maybe some other excuse then. I'm hoping to take our 3 boys for a month around Christmas 2008. I'd be our kind of Disneyland holiday of a life time sort of thing. Worth it for the tree ferns alone. They are humungus and are thought of as little more than weeds really. Talk about in my element! Gardening wise, it's amazing. It's a mix of the very familiar and the wow I've never seen those before.
I assume you are talking South Island then? Not that I know much about NZ! What a wonderful holiday for you to plan.
Must be South Isalnd. We went to North Island last year and all the houses filled their plots so tiny gardens and not much natural planting that was anything to write home about either !!
Must try South Island sometime !!

No it was North Island Auckland and Wellington suburbs. I saw loads of plants I didn't know. I thought it was great but then I'm not an expert, just an enthusiastic learner.
Oh No !! must have had my eyes shut !!!! Sorry
