    Hello, dahliadelight.

Pleeese!!! Don't go down the "crates"/pallets route, I promise you will regret it. Not only will it look unsightly, it won't last.
The timber needs to be pressure treated with a preservative; it should then last for about twenty years.

The cheapest decking timber (although not very cheap) I have seen has been a B&Q. Sometimes suitable off-cuts are available from your local wood merchant.

    Good luck.

thanks david i will get dad to check out b&q in spring, we'll forget the pallets thanks
we want to deck it out and also use the decking wood to make like a bench around the decking and some sort of fold away table for when we are sat out on warm days on each corner i want raised pots for grass plants etc

Try your local fencing merchants. If they've got them, use 38mm thick planed/profiled/treated decking boards (1 1/2") as these are less likely to warp than 25mm (1"). Cost you more initially but worth it in the long run.

We got ours from a local timber merchants it was treated and cut to the size we wanted including posts and ballistraude (have I spelt this right).Anyway it did not cost that much more than DIY stores and was thicker and good quality.
