We are having a special party in early July, and want our greenhouse to look spectacular. It is 8' x 6' all glass. Suggestions please!
Put fairy lights around it? Are you expecting your guests to go and look inside the greenhouse or is it supposed to look good from the house/BBQ area/whatever?
A trip to a garden centre will help you spend pounds buying wonderful imported plants in full bloom or leaf, your quests will consider you an expert gardener to have such Tropical plants in a fantastic greenhouse.
Make the trip just 3 days before, as many plants need specialised treatment.
You have time to begin to grow your own edible plants such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, radish etc. They will not be ready for July but think how impressed your guests will be that you are growing your own. And then you can look forward to the harvest and every time you pick something it will remind you of your special party.
All of these things - some of our guests will be gardeners!
Exactly what I had in mind! Alas, the budget won't take it! Am looking at plug-plants though.
Thanks Toadspawn. They wouldn't believe it tho'!
i'll crawl out of my beeb grave for this post!
Hello. i would go with the lights option. put rope lights of similar aroudn the main shape of the greenhouse to show it up. then inside, start at the abck with some tall house plants, get all the ones form in your houe, you wont miss them for a night. then work down to where thye will stand so you get layers of foliage. you could then also put soem fiary lights etc around these plants to amke it look even better.
i'll crawl out of my beeb grave for this post!Â
Blimey Adam - you slumming it tonight?
Thanks Adam, tho' I think the local airport may complain, or maybe we'll have jumbo-jets landing on our postage stamp lawn. Seriously all ideas taken on board.
If you want to use plug plants there are so many to choose from, they will be in the garden centres from late march onwards.
I always buy the plugs early cos they are cheaper than later. just carefully divided the tiny plants and replant into trays of compost.
my fav are begonia sempiflorums wth the red leaves.
Petunias are also avaiable early as are tagetees, make sure you buy with the labels attached to the boxes very impressive if you can name them to your visitors.
My thanks to all of you. I shall probably do a bit of all your suggestions - tomatoes in a hanging basket, pot of dwarf runner beans, rows of busy lizzie, lobelia, begonias, plus fuchsias, geraniums, and some green plants to set them off - plugs, seeds, and bought in plants. And, of course, can't forget some lights!
This is my first time on the message board - you have all been so helpful, I shall be back!
Thanks again. VB
