Hi. I've bought a flat with a large garden. I don't do gardening. But newly single it's me or nothing. Top bit nearest the windows is shingled then it's what is laughingly called lawn. - Not! Any advice will be gratefully listened to.

Hum... I think a bit more information is needed! What do you want from your garden? A haven that doesn't need much maintenance, or a paradise you can potter in? What direction does the garden face - ie how much sun? And do other people get to use the garden or is it just yours?

And what sort of budget do you have?

As the others have said, it's a bit difficult to say much without more info. Generally I would say:
1. Take your time to decide what you want;
2. Get some gardening books out of the library , both practical how to garden & design books so you can spend time deciding what you want & how to do it;
£. When you think you have decided, you can still take your time to actually do it. Gardens are very much evolving things.

My advice is just chat to the person with a garden you admire and you will be surprised at how generous gardeners are with info and help, and often cuttings.
