Haven't visited here for a few days, don't know whether you missed me....?I have had a terrible last few days.. last thursday my OH went to pick up our marble hearth and back panel (ordered 4 weeks ago, should have been here 3 weeks ago). It was badly damaged so he phoned me to ask what to do. I was just leaving for work so was in a rush, thought it wasn't worth accepting which left us with the problem of finding a replacement by Fri am. Got in my car, car wouldn't start! OH managed to get another one (£35 more). Friday 9am plumber arrived, disappeared 9.15am. Phone call later to say van broken down! Having taken day off I thought I would pickle my onions, cut thumb badly on knife! Next day , took dog out for lunchtime walk, when we got back he had a 'mad 5 minutes', jumped on the sofa, sofa moved and crashed into marble back panel that was stored 'safely' behind.
'Luckily' B&Q had one that matched so it only cost us £65 to replace it!!!Plumber is now coming tomorrow. Anyone want a dog???smiley - doh

That all sounds very frustrating but I hope it's all now fitted and safe from further mishap. You can always recycle the broken parts in the garden. I used red marble slabs from an old fireplace we tore out to top a bottle wall. Huge success and they've faded nicely too.

Oh dear! Hope things are improving now: that the hearth and panel are now fitted and approved of; that the dog is still in disgrace; and that your car is working properly now. Big hug!

Thanks everyone, it didn't get much better, the plumber rang me 1/2 an hour before he was due to say he had a backlog and couldn't do our fire for another ten days. I was pretty speechless! But alls well that ends well, fire is now fitted (by someone else), dog is now out of the doghouse. He is too lovely to be ignored for long, in fact he is on my lap as I type!! Wish I had thought of using the marble in the garden but it had broken into odd shapes. Funny thing was that when my OH threw it into the skip it stayed intact!!
