Can you just sow any kind of salad mix for this or does it need to be specific varieties. I think the stuff I used previous years was just a random mix.
I think most of the mixed leaf salad seeds can be used in this way. The single, named varieties (e.g. Little Gem lettuces) are normally meant to be left to turn into grown-up lettuces, but I think you're OK with the mixes. You can also cut some as baby leaves and then thin out some of the rest and leave them to grow into mature plants of lettuce, rocket, etc.
I agree. Never buy a specific mixed salad leaf packet, just sow the ones we like & pick them young.
Sometimes supermarkets sell trays of growing salads for the kitchen sill. A couple of cuts later they get planted outside & off they go again. Cheating in a way, but why not? J.
Excellent thanks. Might pop to wilko later today to get some salad seeds. My old ones seems to have passed their sell-by date by years as I hardly got any salad last year.
