Around the last week in April or first week in May is my time

Some may think this is a bit late but late frosts in my area (West Yorkshire)can sometimes be a problem.

Onions are not usually a problem as they can stand a bit of frost but potato tops won't.

Around then the ground should be beginning to warm up so what I lose in time with late sowing is soon made up with the warmer soil conditions.

Plus the fact if potato tops get frosted this again delays the growing process so planting out early is not necessarily an advantage.

So patience I find is the best approach, as plants have a way of catching up.

I shall do mine next week-end. Also the Oninions will go in at the same time but if it is particularly cold I start them off under a Cloche and then replace this with Ecomesh which does give them some potection from frost and the dreaded onion fly later on.

    Hope this helps?
