Hi all, I planted garlic in cells in November because I haven't had much luck putting them direct in the garden - thought I would try a different approach. I am in the north of England, the usual problem (I think) is the cold wet soil over winter, hence the cells in the GH.
They are looking fine, about 10cm high, in the (unheated) GH. Would like advice as to when to put them out.
Many thanks

I'd harden them off in a sheltered position for a week or two. Though they should stand frost without any harm. If your soil is heavy, it is worth putting a fistful of sharp sand in the planting hole.
ta muchly, will do. Would you do that kind of now with the intention of planting out in a couple of weeks or leave till warmer weather...

Of topic, Gaffelbiter do you eat the fragrant herring you are named after?
I think I heard that garlic needs to be frosted to form good cloves?

I'm sure I've heard it too; something to do with the proper division of the cloves??
However, the RHS website doesn't mention it explicitly:
right then, thanks everyone, I shall harden them off and get them planted out.
