Last year I grew Hot Patio Sizzle chillies from new seed. I used 1/2 the pack. I still have 2 healthy plants (1 has just produced 2 chillies). Will the plants give a good crop thgis year (early?) and for how many years will the seed I bought last year be viable? Any chillies lovers able to advise, please? Undecided whether to sow seed or not bother this year. many thanks, Maggie
I have never saved plants before so I don't know what to expect from kept plants.
Theoretically it should be Ok but as you have the seeds you may as well sow a few as back up.
I find seeds are viable for three or four years providing they have been kept properly.

Interesting website - thanks Tee Gee.
I wonder if anyone has overwintered chillies in the past.
Maggie
I'd definitely sow again. Plants can be kept going into a second season but production is usually reduced. They get tired. Providing seeds are stored properly - well sealed, dry, consistent mild temperature - they can remain viable for ten years or more. The germination rate will drop, obviously, but I'm happily using chilli and tom seeds that I saved a decade ago.
