I live in a terraced house and have a garden about 30 foot by 20 foot. I've recently had to cut down a sycamore tree that was getting out of hand (threats to foundations etc, not sure who decided it was the best tree to plant in a relatively confined space!), and now have a decent sized space that I think would be best filled by a fruit tree (I understand we are currently in the time of year for planting new trees). The tree should ideally be less than 15-20 foot tall at maturity.

The question is what fruit tree should I grow in its place?

I already have two apple trees growing in half barrels so don't really want another one. The space is sunny, reasonably sheltered and against a west facing fence. I understand apple pollination (hence have two trees), but not sure how this works for other trees, or how far the insects can carry the pollen. In terms of eating, I absolutely love all fruit so have no preference in that respect. Any ideas or tips?

Dwarf Stella Cherry. I have one it gives lots of lovely dark sweet cherries each year. Mine is about 2.5 metres high in about and is 10 years old.

Thanks for that. Do I need two or is it self fertile?

I only have one and there are no cherry trees nearby. I am sure it is self fertile.
