I have had a crop fromoneofmyblackcurrant bushes but I think it now seems to have big green lumps on the stems. Is thisbig bud andwhat can I do about it.
Certainly sounds like it, pick them off and destroy them now and any other large buds that develop over the winter. They are caused by a mite which can transmit a reversion virus.
If your big green lumps are pointy in shape they are just new leaves forming. If they are round in shape and about the size of a little pea, then that is big bud mite, and those round shoots are the ones you should remove.
Happy gardening!
