    Hi. my broadbeans (longpod) this year the pods grow as normal but when opened there was no beans inside. any ideas, Thanks. Ste

    "Beanstealers", sorry, old serviceman's joke.

    Lack of polenation wouldn't stop beans from growing from within the pod, the pod wouldn't be there. I'm as stumped as you are. Cheers, Tony.

    I had a huge crop but the fact of empty pods is an interesting one, which you mentioned at the time.

    Lack of wtaer is the most likely explanation. I did get quite a few huge pods but with one little "chamber" empty of bean, and the rest full.

    If you pick too early you get empty pod syndrome, I should think.
    Why they should look full, and yet be empty, is surely quite a complex question of the dynamics of the plant itself. Mathematics itself can calculate the infinitessimal increase of the plant, but that is surely beyond us here!

    count your beans and be thankful! I got several pods with seven big beans in them, and had about 20kg or more all together. Yummee ate the lost many raw in front of the bed!
