Hi.
I'm growing some radicchio di treviso (an italian red chicory), and I would like to try to force it this winter. Has anybody tried this before? Any advice would be much appreciated, I've never forced anything at all. Last year I grew it without forcing it, and it was ok for salads, but apparently to use it cooked (which I love) one should force it.
Thanks.
M.
Chicory is normally forced by lifting in the autumn potting up and then placed in a completely dark area where they are allowed to sprout
it may be possible to force it like rhubarb by placing un upturned pot over the plant in the spring
Thanks farmersteve. Should I cut the existing leaves before blocking out the light?
I'll try both methods, but I hope the rhubarb-like ones works, as it sounds easier and less work.
