Hi, Last year was a disaster for our potatoes,
they were very small, size of an egg, pigens eat all the brasicas and other seed we put in didnt come to any thing. we have put it down to inferia seed for the potatoes,(we bought seed from a farmer that he had left over)or lack of water because we have to rely on the rain, potatoes were Desirie ones, they were nice eaters though,i bought an potatoe peeler for my mixer so solved problen for peeling,we put them in ground with potatoe machine and maybe also didnt go in deep anouth.can anyone sugest which sort of potatoes we should go for this year,we thought to put in some first earlys and also some maincrop
I grow Rocket,Kestrel and Cara, all of which give me a good crop of potatoes but these may not suit your soil. The soil in all gardens vary and potatoes are really affected by this.I have my seed potatoes chitting in the old type tomatoe trays and they are just forming some nice shoots.
I grew Desire, Sante and a couple of drills of Maris piper which turned out reasonable well. I was really pleased with my Sante so that would be recommendable however again it may not suit your soil structure.
Thank you both for your recomdations, will look into all these potatoes
