Are soaker hoses that good?, I'm in the process of building some raised beds and thought soaker hoses would be a good option, for the price of 10m of soaker hose I can buy 30m of normal hose, and put the holes in myself. Apart from some holes clogging, are there any other drawbacks with the plan?
Leaky pipe is fairly cheap (79p a metre) and it works well. I also tried making my own from cheap hosepipe and it didn't work as well because here are always holes spraying out more water than others.

Soaker hoses are porous with tiny perforations so the water oozes out over it's whole length - provided you block the open end, that is..... whereas you'd be hard put to produce that without going bonkers.........
