i dug some washed seaweed into our small runner bean trench (3ft6 by 3ft6) this year & was amazed at the amount we cropped off our pyramid. i dont want to use too much because of the high salt content, this would discourage worm activity? is there a process i could follow to get rid of the salt or make it more worm/user friendly? i collect the seaweed thats been washed up on the shoreline & not the dried stuff up the beach thats way too salty
Er, I think it is the other way round, the fresh material is more salty than the dried. That is what we used to use when we lived at the seaside. We stacked it in the garden for a season and allowed the rain to wash away any remaining salt.
Think the best idea is to collect it after Spring tides have finished and after a good downpour of rain, which would remove some of the salt.
I mix it with the compost, doesn't seem to do any harm.
