I've just been down to my allotment with fork in hand to dig it over ready for next spring. Got there and it had been perfectly "dug" for me.

Phoned up the council as I thought someone had been mistakenly given my plot or something. They told me I had been evicted!!! They then checked there records and found they had got my plot mixed up with another of the same number on a different site.

I've basically had my plot rotavated for free and had some overhanging trees cut back!!!!

Things like that don't happen to me!!!!

Sounds like a good mistake to me. Enjoy.

Lucky you. The council got our allotment muddled up with another one last year - but it was for winning a cup! It took us a while to find out we had won a little bit of silverware whilst our neighbours (plot 1/2 covered in plastic) thought it was their lucky day!

That sounds great. I've just had next year's invoice sent which I have to pay by the 15th December but I think £30 for a plot for a year isn't bad. I'm in the process of digging everything over and composting. The one good thing about this time of the year is that very little is growing anywhere and so we're all in pretty much the same boat.

allotments are always good value but make the best use of them - I have just finished harvesting the oriental salads (they do well even in the really cold weather) and still have chicory, kale, sprouts, savoys, parsnips, leeks, turnips, swede, jerusalem artichokes, sprouts to look forward to, then it will be time for the caulis next spring, seakale and spring cabbages, and then we start all over again. It is quite easy to harvest all year round if you plan it that way. Joy

I would be so annoyed if the council went anywhere near my allotment after seeing their 'gardening' attempts in our street and the cemetary opposite which seem to consist of vandalising anything in their path. The gardens in our street are private yet I have spoken to council workers 3 times asking them to stop strimming/poisoning my plants and still they come back when I am at work and destroy our garden.
