i hope this is the correct place for this comment on this show. I could not find a message board specific to the program 'the manor reborn. I f I am wrong, I would appreciate it if somecould point me in the right direction. Thank you.

in this program, the head gardener in charge of recreating the kitchen garden at a manor that is being restored, commented that some plants had died because the weather was the warmest in a long time and no-one had bothered to water the plants.

well, to me, the person that should take full responsibility for this occurrence is the head gardener himself. given the weather situation and even taking into account that this particular garden may not be the only garden he takes care off, how much energy/time would it have taken for him to check the well being of this garden? Enough said!

He was truly terrible at his job!! Just strutted around and we never saw him do anything - then he had the gall to moan about the neglected plants!!

In all fairness he wasn't the head gardener.

I got the impression from the programme he was brought in for his expertise having worked at Highgrove and was just over seaing the project in the walled garden.

There was a team of gardeners tending the rest of the gardens who weren't prepared to help with the new restorations in the neglected walled garden. I don't think it was his fault, he probably did the programme then went away until the next lot of filming.

Will continue to watch the programme, I enjoyed it. With all the stuff they plan to plant in the walled garden though it will be interesting to see how the project progresses and what is planned fror the produce.

Eeek - the plans for the interior of the house seemed ok, at first, but the colour scheme in the room shown in the final few mins of the programme left alot to be desired.

I really enjoyed this programme but I think I got more out of it because I stumbled upon Avebury Manor quite by accident at the end of August while visiting the village to look at the standing stones. What the Trust were setting out to achieve in relation to the style of the building, the garden, surrounding village and countryside possibly made more sense than the programme would have done otherwise.

I have to say this building and its setting made a huge impact on me. The Manor wasn't open to the public because of restoration work in progress so I spent ages in the surrounding garden - in fact, I had to drag myself away. Its been a long time since a garden moved me so much and I still can't quite fathom why this one had the affect it did. The sense of place and history is all enveloping. I adored the beautifully clipped yew hedges, the manicured lawns, the simplicity of style and planting, the paired back colour scheme framed by centuries old walls and footpaths and the silence save for the gentle sound of a pair of distant hedge clippers and the timely toll of the church bell. The walled garden was a cocophany of Dahlias, all vibrant colour in Christopher Lloyd style and would have sat comfortably at Great Dixter.

I truly hope the interior delivers as the garden does - a hard act to follow I reckon.
