Picked this up on the grapevine as part of the Â鶹Éç cuts coverage.

Obviously a big challenge for the staff concerned facing potential redundancy or a move to Bristol.

Assuming it goes ahead, I wonder what it will mean for the programme? The existing Bristol unit is responsible for some very good programmes - the plant hunter programme, for instance, so quality-wise could be good.

Slight concern that the cooler north and drier east will be even less well covered than now.

An item on Â鶹Éç News ( ) says that GW WILL move to Bristol.

Bristol is the home of the Â鶹Éç Natural History Unit ( ), so Bristol already has the best expertise, in the world, for this type of program.

Bristol would also be nearer than Birmingham, to both Monty's garden in Hereford, and Carol's in Devon.

Why does GW actually need a 'production team'? Monty is a writer so can edit the scripts and his gardener can be trained to use a Steadicam with a pro-quality HD video. The video can then just be whizzed down the t'interweb for editing in Manilla or Mumbai for hardly any money.
