Was anybody else lucky enough, like me, to see the above on Â鶹Éç2 last night? What a brilliant programme - an hour of absolute delight. Let's hope we can see a follow up in a few years time with even better news. There's nothing more beautiful than the English countryside on a lovely summer's day.

Yes, natures garden is hard to beat. Some times I do go deep into the country to work on a farm (prune the Wisteria) and it often has an alien quality, partly because there are so few people. An arable farmer explained that your talking one man per thousand acres these days. Most of that grows animal feed, which was where the program did not show the whole story. The writer took a PC swipe at GM crops as a danger to wildlife when there is no certain evidence that this is so. There is a possibility that a GM wheat could be bred to give a 'hard wheat' that could be grown in our climate, which is necessary for bread production our own 'soft wheat' being used for biscuits. This could have the economic benefits to pay for more wildlife susidies? However as with most communal decisions, it is hard cheese.

Yep, I saw the programme and loved every minute of it. Phillipa forrester has been involved with several very good wildlife films, the year in the woods and my halycon river were both great. Her partner is a wildlife camera man, but im not sure if he was involved with last nights programme.
