Complaint
A viewer complained that this interview was edited in a misleading way with thirty minutes 鈥渞别尘辞惫别诲鈥 from the discussion containing material which gave important聽 background to the quotes Mr Tate was asked about, showing they had been taken out of context. 聽The ECU considered whether it met 麻豆社 standards on due accuracy.
Outcome
The ECU viewed the edited 麻豆社 interview and the full version posted online. 聽It noted that in the broadcast interview Mr Tate set out at length his claims of innocence of the charges he faced, his profound disagreement with the way his previous comments had been characterised, and the fact he considered he was a force of good who taught young men discipline and hard work. 聽Mr Tate also set out his belief that the 麻豆社 had fabricated the person who had accused him of violent and coercive behaviour.
Over the course of the programme Mr Tate reiterated that the quotes attributed to him had not been said by him, were satirical or were taken out of context and did not reflect the good he did 鈥 broadly reflecting what he had said in the longer version. 聽In all, viewers were given a good sense of the arguments he made in his defence, and his belief the interview was biased against him.
The complainant provided no detail on any particular points of concern and the ECU found no evidence to suggest the edited version misrepresented the discussion or the points made by Mr Tate.
