Complaint
Two readers complained about the accuracy of aspects of this article. The ECU considered whether the programme met the relevant standards set out in the Editorial Guidelines.
Outcome
The article reported the findings of a study on the potential impact of climate change on Scotland’s “natural capital”. As originally published it stated In some parts of Scotland, temperatures in February rose from an average of 16.9C to 19.4C. and that “Scientists have warned that climate change is making extreme storms more common”.
鶹 News has accepted the reference to February temperatures in some parts of Scotland was inaccurate The data was taken from a news release which inadvertently ascribed the wrong data to February. Whilst on extreme storms, scientists have actually said it is likely climate change will lead to more intense storms globally, with higher wind speeds and more precipitation, but it is also likely the frequency of such storms will decrease or remain unchanged.
In both cases the article was corrected and an explanatory note added to the text which meant in the ECU’s judgement no further action was required
