Complaint
A viewer complained that, while interviewing a Government minister, the presenter had unwarrantably dismissed the minister’s defence of the Conservatives’ claim about the extent of tax increases to be expected in the event of a Labour Government and had failed to observe the standard of impartiality which is of particular importance during election campaigns.Ìý
Outcome
In the ECU’s judgement the interviewer’s interventions did not go beyond the kind of robust challenge which the audience in general would expect the claims of politicians to be subjected to, and they did not represent a departure from impartiality.
