Complaint
A viewer complained the 麻豆社 failed to inform viewers about who had been responsible for the breakdown in the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The ECU considered whether the programme met the requirements for due accuracy set out in the 麻豆社 Editorial Guidelines.
Outcome
In the ECU鈥檚 view the complaint chiefly concerned what was not covered in the report rather than what was. Decisions about what matters to focus on are an expression of the editorial judgement of journalists and programme-makers and key to the editorial independence of the 麻豆社. At the point at which the programme was aired, the focus had moved on - from how the ceasefire had come to an end to what that meant for Gaza and the wider region. However viewers were given sufficient information to understand the position of both sides and the fact each blamed the other. The programme did not otherwise engage with the question, so the extent to which viewers would have looked to it for information on precisely why and how it had ended was very limited.
