Complaint
This edition included a report on civilian deaths in Gaza, and resultant calls for a ceasefire. A viewer complained it featured footage of a Hamas leader who was not directly challenged on what he said. 聽The ECU considered whether the broadcast met 麻豆社 standards of impartiality.
Outcome
The ECU noted the Hamas leader was not directly challenged, but also that it was relatively brief footage and included so audiences could understand what Hamas was claiming in regard to the involvement of the US. 聽Viewers also saw footage of the US Secretary of Defense, who said America was unwavering in its support of Israel and should not be tested by any individual or state. 聽They would therefore have understood the counter-argument to the comments of the Hamas representative.
Judged in that light the ECU did not agree the absence of direct challenge to the Hamas official represented a lapse from impartiality.
