Photo – An RLSS UK lifeguard is an everyday hero, always ready to step in and save a life.
Thanks to your donations, thousands more people now know how to enjoy water safely when they’re out and about, helping RLSS UK secure a future where accidental drowning is a thing of the past.”
The amazing final total of £7,275 resulting from the generosity of the Radio 4 listeners, went straight to work, as the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) continued its work towards nations without drowning.
As lockdown closed so many pools and leisure facilities, people headed outdoors and in great weather, to exercise and socialise. Acutely aware that this meant many thousands more people would be enjoying the UK’s great waterways, RLSS UK innovated and created the free to download, digital toolkit ‘Lifesaver-Lifechanger’.
Thanks to your generosity, over 16,300 people to date have completed this vital, lifesaving resource and now know how to enjoy water safely.
And when the UK leisure sector fully re-opens for business, RLSS UK is ready to ensure lifeguard training ramps up.
£250 fully-qualifies a lifeguard – a professional lifesaver, trained to respond to emergency first aid situations whether that’s at the poolside or in the supermarket.
Your money will help RLSS UK, alongside its partners and leisure sector customers, to ensure valuable lifeguard career opportunities are open to people from all walks of life in 2021 and beyond.
Every second counts in an emergency first aid situation; the money you donated will help RLSS UK train more volunteers to further the reach of our ‘Save A Life’ series, equipping people with lifesaving first aid skills, coupled with the confidence to use them.
When restrictions lift, our volunteer army will once again, be out in your community educating people on basic emergency first aid through our ‘Save A Life’ series of courses. In the meantime, we know our volunteers are already giving their time to those near them, who are most in need of help during the pandemic restrictions.
RLSS UK thanks Radio 4 and everyone who donated to our ‘Enjoy Water Safely’ appeal, and hopes they’re one of the millions of people, who gets to enjoy the many and varied bodies of water, the UK has to offer.
