Mandy Morton

Cambridgeshire's Queen of Arts, Mandy Morton, interviews all the people who matter in her Eclectic Light Show from 6pm - 8pm on Wednesday evenings! The programme covers her love of theatre, music and biography - and much, much more.

Q: Your story so far?

A: I was born in Framlingham, Suffolk and spent most of my school days in Nottingham. I've been living in Cambridge since 1968.

I had a professional music career in folk/rock, recording six albums for Decca and Polydor, most of which have just been re-released. I've been associated with 麻豆社 Radio Cambridgeshire since 1985 as a freelance producer/presenter and, in that time, have presented all the main programmes except sport, and currently present and produce the Sunday Arts show.

For the past three years, I have produced our Trustline Charity's outside events, raising an extra 拢64,000 in partnership with the county's arts organisations.

I have also produced a number of arts documentaries for 麻豆社 Radio 2, specialising in biography, music and theatre, and, in 2005, I co-wrote the theatre book 'In Good Company'.

Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A: A musician.

Q: What's the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you?

A: Coming out of an interview with Britt Ekland on her latest stage show, only to realise that half my interval ice-cream was still down the front of my shirt!

Q: What's the worst job you've ever had?

A: A Trustline panto open-topped bus tour around the county in a freezing cold November. The bus broke down in St Ives on the first day and never truly rallied after that, culminating in Cathedral Square, Peterborough, on Friday night, when the fire brigade had to jump-start us.

Q: Do you have a catchphrase?

A: No.

Q: What was the first record you ever bought?

A: A second-hand copy of The Beatles' Please Please Me.

Q: What's your favourite food?

A: A roast dinner with all the trimmings, and I find it impossible to share a packet of crisps with anyone.

Q: When Hollywood comes calling, who'll play you?

A: Marilyn Monroe, but only because we share the same initials.

Q: In a fire, what would you rescue first?

A: My minidisc archive of interviews, many of which could never be replaced.

Q: What do you do to relax?

A: Either retire to the summer house with a good book or, if time allows, escape to Cornwall to become a beach-bum for a few days.
