How to say: Ehud Olmert

Host Host | 14:31 UK time, Thursday, 27 July 2006

A guide to words and names in the news, from Catherine Sangster of the Â鶹Éç Pronunciation Unit.

"Today's pronunciation is the Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert, pronounced ay-HOOD OL-mairt.

"We generally research names using written sources and native speakers within the Â鶹Éç, but we also consult outside agencies. In this case, the pronunciation came from a Hebrew speaker in the press office of the Israeli embassy."

Your guide to the pronouncation of Ehud Olmert is at fault. The name Ehud has a very hard "h" slighly gutteral as in the Scottish "loch".

What about a short sound-byte on these pronunciation posts?
