Smashing Pumpkins - 'Spaceboy'

We've seen a fair few mood-swings over the last week of the show, and these are more than reflected in this week's haul of musical astonishments. How else could you link together the squealing synthpop of La Roux with the twinkling hurt of Eels? Or the sleazy funk of Marvin Gaye with the doomed romance of Broken Bells?

Well OK, you could just really like all of these songs, and that would be fine too.

Special mention must go to Smashing Pumpkins this week. 'Spaceboy' is one of those brittle masterpieces which seems to fall over itself, and billow around, but holds itself together beautifully using nothing but floppy willpower. At the other end of the scale is Prince's 'Gett Off', which could not be more pneumatic and forceful if it was a giant robot attempting to destroy a major city.

. Why not try getting your swagger on to the funky bits. It will do you the world of good.

What's your favourite? Don't worry if you can't choose. Just blame those pesky mood-swings and enjoy the ride.
