Week 26 on iplayer and that 'Zig-ah-Zig-ah' dance

Post categories: ,Ìý,Ìý,Ìý

Wow...what a week we've had on The Cut. Marla had an 18th birthday party to beat all 18th birthday parties. So much drama, I loved it. The full episode is available on iplayer right now, so if you haven't had a chance to see it yet, or have been saving yourself for a mega-slice of Cut action, or even just want to relive every dramatic moment over again, then iplayer is the place to be.

Ìý

I've got something quite special for you all now. During Marla's party this week Frankie and Cameron did a very special dance, by far the best spontaneous dance I've seen at a fancy dress party in a long time. Change that. EVER. The dance includes some breaker moves from Cameron and a JLS-style backflip performed in full fancy-dress costume - they were at a fancy-dress party after all. But this meant their masks obscured their faces, and this has led to a few of you to question whether it was actually Maisie and Wilf (aka Frankie and Cameron) doing the dance. Well, I can officially confirm that it was Maisie and Wilf dancing beneath that lycra and Wilf did indeed do that backflip. But in case you'd doubt even me... I made a video to quash any remaining doubts, and to show Maisie and Wilf as the true legends they are, pulling their fantastic moves.

We'd like to say a massive thank you to you guys for helping us out with our mission and spreading the word to your friends. We've going to spend our weekend thinking of the next mission we can set ourselves...

Weeks 7-9 backstage photo gallery

Vicki Vicki | 16:58 UK time, Wednesday, 28 July 2010

Comments

Everyone likes a backstage photo or two, don't they? Especially if they feature a really cute pose from Olive and Frankie, or a really, erm, *interesting* one of Dean. Well, luckily for you, that's exactly what the latest backstage gallery of The Cut has in store for you!

I'm currently scoping out a few exclusive photos from recent episodes and they'll go up next week, so keep checking the pictures section for more photo-y goodness, but for now I will leave you with this photo that is SO EXCLUSIVE it didn't make it into the photo gallery at all. Extreme, I know.

Enjoy!

Week 25 Music List

Post categories:

Fraser McAlpine | 10:14 UK time, Sunday, 25 July 2010

Comments

Blondie - Heart Of Glass
Wesley - Just Weren't Meant To Be
Bloc Party - Kreuzberg
Bruce Springsteen - Hungry Heart
MGMT - It's Working
Panic At The Disco - Nine In The Afternoon
The Killers - Read My Mind
The Revoffs -ÌýBells & Whistles
The Drums - Best Friend
Vampire Weekend - Giving Up The Gun
Harry Connick Jr - Nowhere With Love
Aztec Camera - Jump
Harry Connick Jr - It Had To Be You

And here it is (or as much of it as I can gather together) in a beautiful , so you can act out the episodes all over again. Or just listen to the music.

This week, the best song on the list is a tough call. You can't argue with Blondie, so don't even try. And any list which contains Bruce Springsteen at one extreme and the Drums at the other is going to be hard to represent in just one tune. Plus the older stuff has an unfair advantage, we all grew up with it.

So I'm going to plump for Panic At The Disco. It's beautifully strange, Brendan's quivering bleat sounds amazing in the middle of all of that weird psychedelic pop, and I like the way the chords churn around and around.

Over to you: Which Cut cut is the best?

Week 25 on iplayer and the 1000 fan facebook challenge

Hello people,

Week 25 is now on iplayer - booyakasha.

It's Marla's 18th birthday and what a party episode this is. If you haven't been watching through the week then kick back, get comfortable and settle down for a first class dose of The Cut. The end of the episode is especially...well, I won't ruin anything but OMG I sooooooo didn't see that one coming...

In other news Vicki and I have set ourselves a bit of a Cut facebook mission, as we want to get as many fans of The Cut on our facebook page as possible. We know how good The Cut is, we love it, we know how much you guys love it, and we want to spread the word. Our mission is to get 1000 fans on by the end of next week - that's by 31st July. We currently have 732 - so we don't think it's an impossible task - but we need to rally the troops (i.e. you guys and your friends) to link it on your facebook pages, to link it on your blogs and to link every which way but loose, telling everyone you know to become a fan of The Cut on facebook. As we all know it's the best teen soap out there - so let's spread the word Cutlets. Together we can lead the revolution.

Ahem... I've calmed down now, although I think I need a lie down. I'll leave you guys enjoying this weeks full Cut episode... I've seen it through the week, I've seen the full ep. as an insider sneak preview, but yes of course - I'm watching again.

Have a great weekend.

The mystery of Dean's spots...

Post categories:

Vicki Vicki | 14:27 UK time, Monday, 19 July 2010

Comments

A couple of days back Black_Vine asked us how they make Dean's spots. I (naturally) assumed they were real, but turns out this is not the case, so we asked Bella who does make-up on The Cut to explain...

"We redden the patches of Thomas' face where we plan to have the breakouts with different shades of red and purple special effects make-up. Then the scar tissue make-up goes on, we use this to build the spots and then we colour around them with greasepaint colours, this makes them look more realistic and painful. We also add a bit of fake pus to some of the spots to make them really gross!"

So there you have it! Now we can all try it at home... err...

PS. Check out Slink's spots factfile for more info on what to do about real spots x

Week 24 Music list

Florence & The Machine - Kiss With A Fist

Beethoven - Symphony No 5

Pixies - Debaser

The Courteeners - The Opener

The Courteeners - Scratch Your Name On My Lips

- The Wall

Jason Mraz - Lucky

Thom Yorke - Analyse

Little Boots - Meddle

Mumford and Sons - Thistle and Weeds

Hot Djour - I Stand Alone

Amy Macdonald - Dancer In The Dark

And here are all of those songs again, .

I think, if I'm honest, my favourite song of the week has to be Beethoven's Fifth. It was a close call between that and Debaser by the Pixies, if only because I know how much that song and that band influenced Nirvana and therefore a TON of rock music ever since, but c'mon... "Dadada-DERRRR, dadada-DERRR"

You can't argue with riffs like that. It even made a coach trip seem like an epic odyssey into the unknown.

What's your favourite selection from this week?

The premise of the quiz is simple - the answer to each of the below is either ON or OFF. Were Olive and Stephen ON or OFF during the following episodes/ events? Easy. Or is it....? Have a go and see how you do.

Were Olive and Stephen together....

1)ÌýÌýÌýÌý On Olive's 16th birthday?

Yup, that's right. The Cut kicks off again this coming Monday at 5:10pm (that's 55 hours and 10 minutes away, not that I'm, err, slightly obsessed or anything). Even though this Cut off air situation has been a traumatic time for us all, I think we can all agree that thanks to the cast's wonderful blogs and general up-for-doing-anything-for-you-lot attitude,* it's flown by.

My personal highlights on the blog during the past four weeks include discovering Billie's 'biggest secret' and of course welcoming Isla to Team Cut, but how about you? Let us know what was your favourite blog and why, then we know what to keep making more of!

Earlier today, Fraser of the ChartBlog fame told us a bit more about the music used in The Cut... but I guess all that's left to say is SEE YOU ON MONDAY! Eeeee! I'm so excited I might wee myself a bit.

Only kidding.

Or am I?

Making Music Matter More

Fraser McAlpine | 10:00 UK time, Saturday, 10 July 2010

Hello, I'm Fraser.

If our paths have crossed before it's most likely to have been because I write the , but I'm part of the Switch department, which makes me an honorary Cut-atologist (Cut-erator? Cut-mando? Cut-tlefish?), and ideally placed to talk a bit about the music which is used on the show.

So, with this in mind, here's a little gift for anyone who uses Spotify. I've made you a playlist of songs which have been used in recent episodes of The Cut. It is, as you'd expect, quite a hotchpotch.

All the songs are in alphabetical order, and they're ALL great, even the ones you've never heard in full before. There's no trick, no special catch, all you have to do is have a listen and enjoy yourself. Or work your way down the list going "yep, yep, yep, heard it, got it...", and then get on with your life.

But if you wanted to tell us which one is your personal favourite and why, well that would be amazing.

Oh, and I should also say if you're in a band or you're a musician, and you'd like one of your songs to be considered for The Cut - or Radio 1, or 6Music, or your local Â鶹Éç Introducing show - you should have a look at Â鶹Éç Introducing's Song Uploader. It's a brilliant way to get your tunes out THERE.

Which in this case is, y'know, HERE.

What a week

Comments

Wow, it's nearly the end of my first week on the Switch team and so much has happened...

Ìý

On Monday I met the full Switch team at Switch HQ and became a fully fledged Switch team member with a desk and computer and a password and everything. Luckily I didn't have to complete an assault course induction or learn any form of secret handshake - although for all Switch team members reading this I would be fully up for either of those next week. It was straight down to Cut business on Monday as I did some cake eating related filming with the lovely Billie, and of course I blogged for you guys for the first time. On Tuesday I went backstage at the filming of the final Cut episode for series 2 - I even filmed some backstage action and had a chat to the cast on set, so watch out for that in the coming weeks. Wrapping at 3am on Tuesday night meant Wednesday was pretty sleepy and on Thursday Wilf stole the show by taking over The Cut blog and answering some of the great questions you all sent in. And suddenly it's Friday and I have no idea where the week went...well I do (er...see above), but it's merged into a filming, editing, writing, chatting, laughing, five days full of fun.

Ìý

BUT, before the week's out I definitely want to give you the answers from my Spot the Difference picture extravaganza from Monday. Congrats to black_vine who got it spot on...the answers were:

Ìý

1)ÌýÌýÌýÌý Missing ring on Deborah's (aka Catherine) right hand

2)ÌýÌýÌýÌý Missing bracelet on Deborah's left wrist

3)ÌýÌýÌýÌý Added black band on the knot of Connor's (aka Alex) tie

4)ÌýÌýÌýÌý Black pattern missing from Connor's jumper

5)ÌýÌýÌýÌý Missing necklace pendant on Deborah's necklace

6)ÌýÌýÌýÌý Missing button on Deborah's shirt (left side)

Ìý

So, bring on next week - we've got loads of great things to keep you amused on The Cut blog and The Cut is FINALLY back on Monday. About. Time. Too. We'll be bringing you a brand new episode each day next week, as well as a blog jam-packed full of insider info and stuff you just can't find out elsewhere.ÌýWe'll also still be blogging for you over the weekend, and we've got a fantastic The Cut music blog coming to you on Sunday so definitely check-in for that.

Ìý

Thanks for all your welcoming comments for me as well this week - I feel right at home now.

The closure of Â鶹Éç Switch

Comments

Hellooo my Lords and Ladies of The House of Cutlets,*

Just a small little update from me about the recent announcements around Â鶹Éç Switch as I know a few of you are unsure what it means for The Cut.

The other day, the Â鶹Éç Trust announced that Â鶹Éç Switch will close in December, meaning that our TV and online zones will end. Of course, we're all really sad about this as we love Switch but let's not forget - there's a whole six months before the closure happens. It ain't over yet!

We're going to be working super hard across Switch to bring you the best possible content for the next few months and I can reveal that series three of The Cut will DEFINITELY be going ahead. In fact, we've already started writing it!

Of course, no one really knows what's going to happen to The Cut after Switch closes, but what we can say is that we've got some of the most exciting storylines of The Cut so far coming your way in the near future. So fasten your seatbelts and hold on tightly because the The Cut train is full steam ahead... err. Or something less cheesy.

Feel free to let share your thoughts about what's happen to Switch here and of course we'll let you know more info as soon as we have it.

Vicki x

*I felt that a fitting opening for my 'serious speech', but on reflection it probably wasn't.

Today's blog from Cameron (or Wilf in the real world)

Post categories:

Isla Isla | 17:05 UK time, Thursday, 8 July 2010

Comments

Hello Interweb!

Here I am in Cameron's natural habitat, the world of the blog. Sadly I am not Cameron and thus I am not here to debate conspiracy theories regarding the existence of a new world order fronted by a lizard with the face of Barack Obama. Or even the question as to whether the legend of Leeroy Jenkins was a cruel and twisted hoax or the work of a true Warcraft god. No. I am here to answer questions... This I shall do now... sorry.

QuestionÌýfrom Tagietelli:ÌýAre you geeky like your character or are you nothing at all like Cameron?

I don't think I'm anything like Cameron, but people tell me I am (I have a feeling that's just because we look quite similar though).

Question from Musicgirl320:ÌýIf you could choose another character to be who would you be?Ìý

Probably Alex - he has a lot to work with and I know he gets a really good storyline later on in the series, or maybe I shouldn't have given that away...

QuestionÌýfrom Musicgirl320: Cameron plays the trumpet do you play any instruments?ÌýÌý

Trumpet and bass are my two main things, although I can play a few traditional African and Brazilian instruments to a basic level!

QuestionÌýfrom George:ÌýYour character has changed quite a bit since the programme started. Do you prefer playing a more confident, popular Cameron or is it more fun playing a nerd besotted by a girl he'll never have?

Well observed dude! Yeah it is a lot more fun playing the nerd, but hey I don'tÌýwrite this stuff! (If anyone from the writing team is reading this that was a joke, and I'm sorry).

QuestionÌýfrom Lilth:ÌýWhat do you like to eat when you are on the set of The Cut??

I end up eating a lot of rubbish on set, crisps, doughnuts etc. but what I would like to eat is a whole different story. Basically a lot of anything, I can eat, quite a bit.

That's it from me guys. Thanks a lot for your questions, sorry for those I didn't get a chance to answer.

Wilfred.

Phew. It has been a bit of a wait, but it'll be worth it I promise...the next few weeks on the show are going to be epic (bursting to tell you some insider information but just can't spoil it...).

You've all done so well waiting patiently for The Cut to continue that I thought it was only fair to give you a bit of a sneak peek from the cast about what's going to be happening on the show next week. Take a look at this video to find out more.

Thanks very much to kittymitty for today's cast challenge - she asked Billie how many cakes she could eat in a minute and Billie took the challenge head-on (as well as challenging the other cast members to see if they could out-cake her). Billie shortened the time limit to ten seconds, as she thought it'd be funnier to see the cast members stuffing their faces as quickly as they could with as many cakes as possible. It definitely was pretty funny to watch. So, make your predictions of who you think can eat the most cakes in ten seconds and watch the cake-fest clip to see if you get it right.

This cake challenge comes with an important disclaimer - our cast had an official cake challenge officer assisting their cake challenge antics. Please don't try this at home unless you're supervised by an equally official cake eating expert.

If you have any other suggestions of cast challenges do let us know.

Enjoy.

Hello everyone...I'm Isla and it's my first day on the Switch team today! I'm going to be working with Vicki, writing your blog and makingÌýfun Cut stuff to keep you all amused on the site. Being an avid Cut fan already (and doing a bit of homework on Cut life last week before I started my new exciting job) I saw Vicki made a fantastic crossword for you all to have a go at. So, I thought for my introduction to the blog I'd have a go making you a Cut style Spot the Difference to see if you all can, er, spot the difference...

One last thing before you get spotting - The Cut's very own Cameron will be treating you all with a blog this week, so anything you've ever wanted to ask Cameron just send it in and he may well answer your ponderings in his blog. Leave your question or comment below, or if ya prefer email it to the usual thecut@bbc.co.uk

Happy spotting! Answers later on in the week...until then, I'm off to be the newbee.

Hey guys,

Rather excitingly we're thinking about doing a Cut Music Special, but we need your help! If we did, what would you want to see? Maybe you're a fan of performances, or maybe you'd rather know what made the director's choose the music.

Also, what do you think the best thing about The Cut's choice of music is? Maybe you've discovered a new band through the show, or maybe there's a scene that was made particularly epic because of it's soundtrack.

Let us know - to you, why is The Cut's music so important?

As usual - leave your answers here or email them to thecut@bbc.co.uk

Hey guys!

Ìý

I have been asked to write a blog :D I've never written a blog before so I will give it my best shot! Hope your exams are going well and you are enjoying the weather/football/Wimbledon! We are busy filming the season finale of series 2 at the moment, can't wait for you all to see it, I can't give anything away but wowwwwwwwwww!!! Thank you so much for the questions, sorry if I haven't answered yours!

Ìý

Christi - When you're not filming, who is most like their character and why?

He will hate me for saying this because he doesn't agree, but I think it's Wilf who plays Cameron! He is in love with music just like Cameron and he does have some geeky moments as well :p

Ìý

George - Do you wish your character smiled more, or do you enjoy acting sad?

I do wish sometimes that Olive was happier but if she was then I bet people wouldn't recognise her!! I do enjoy it though as it's more challenging to play, and from the feedback I've had people really relate to her!

MusicGirl320 - Can you compare some of the moments that Olive has with your life? Or Olive's feelings with your feelings?

We have the same taste in music and clothes, and I have great friends like Olive does but I've never worked in a cafe or tried to run away to Paris!! I also think that Olive let's boys upset her too much and she should stand up for herself more like I would!

Ìý

When Olive cries can you like actually fake cry?

Yep the tears are real! I have a playlist of sad songs that I always listen to before those scenes, but there is only so much I cry at once, so there are some other tricks I have up my sleeve...

Ìý

Torie - Are the kissing scenes awkward to do in front of a camera or is it just mutual cause its acting?

It's fine... haha. Okay, honestly though, it is really awkward - there are a lot of crew and passer-bys watching! But it's just part of the job, so we just make fun of each other and mess around between takes which helps.

Do you get to keep the clothes you wear on set {cause they look really awesome}?

I wish! I love all of Olive's clothes!

Ìý

KittyMittyÌý - I wanna ask who did you prefer being Olive's boyfriend Stephen or Tommy?

I change my mind all the time!! Right now I'm.. Team Stephen... no wait Team Tommy... ah!! I think that Olive and Stephen are meant to be, but Tommy makes Olive happier!

Also can you give us any spoilers for what's in store Olive?

I wish I could!! But I will say that some of the scenes I have filmed for the last few episodes have been my favourite so far.

How many jaffa cakes do you eat a day?

I lose count.

Ìý

Catlin - If you could pick anyone celeb or otherwise to be olive Loxley's new love interest who would it be?

Johnny Depp for me, but for Olive I'd have to say there's only one guy for her: R-Patz.

Ìý

Better get back to set now, don't miss the return of the series there are some awesome episodes coming up!

Ìý

Au revoir!
