So, I'm sitting in a café with Anna next to me (she's our script-editor-supremo and fellow writer, along with writers Grant and Vicki) and we're eating pastries and looking back over the first series of The Cut. (I'm the lead writer on the show...I ordinarily hide in the shadows pulling strings, but Anna's enticed me to write an entry for this blog, largely by discovering my secret passion for all things pain au chocolate at 9am).
The ball started rolling at the end of 2008, when our gang of writers sat down for the first time to figure out whether we could make a drama that could be chopped up and shown in online in five-minute chunks.
I had written for some of the Â鶹Éç's long running shows on the telly, be they EastEnders or Holby City or what have you, and my job is to bring what I've learnt from those shows to The Cut, and figure out a way of keeping things pacy whilst keeping an eye on the long-term storylines. A year on and we've invented characters, written the scripts, cast the show, crewed up, and shot all 75 five minute episodes that make up Series 1. A monster project for our little team.
Now, we're all sitting down and thinking where we go from here. What do our characters do in Series 2, and...and further? What would you like to see?
Thanks for the nice comments - means a lot to us to read those from you. And keep sending us your story ideas...new ideas for characters and scenarios, etc etc...
Thanks,
Al (and Anna, Grant and Vicki too)
HAPPPPPPYYYYY CHRISTMAS!!!! I hope you're all having a lovely day filled with finely roasted potatoes and one too many chocolates from the selection box. To celebrate this happy day, I asked the cast of The Cut what their perfect present would be... and what their character's would be! Here's what they had to say...
Matt (plays Stephen): "My perfect present would be to be taken skiing!! Stephen's perfect present would be a plane ticket to Australia for Tommy."
Scarlett (plays Rosa): "My pe
rfect pressie would be a pug complete with its own baby sitter, and Rosa's would be the perfect boyfriend!"
Dermot (plays Mack): "Ok...mine would have to be a holiday to somewhere hot and sticky to chase away the January blues! Mack's would be a holiday to somewhere hot and sticky to chase away the
January blues away... who wouldn't?!"
Lara (plays Marla): "My perfect
Christmas prezzie would be a puppy :) Marla's perfect prezzie would probs be....erm...either clothes, handbags, make up or a car! Haha."
Billie (plays Olive): "I'd love... a mountain of Jaffa cakes!! Olive's would be tickets to Paris?! With R.Patz!"
And as for mine?? Err... well obviously it'd have to be for Season 2 of The Cut... and the rumours are that it's DEFINITELY happening!!!
Merry Christmas everyone!! x
I'm so full of festive cheer this week I've decided to tell you what happens in this week's Cut Special through the medium of song. Enjoy...
We wish you a Merry Cutmas, we wish you a Merry Cutmas, we wish you a Merry Cutmas and A Happy New Year. Good guidings we bring with our 60 second thing. The cast wish you a Merry Cutmas and a Happy New Year.
There's also The Cutmas Speech from Queen Vicki and costume tips from stylist Alice, but I couldn't fit it in to the song.

Now, when I say 'festive debrief', I'm not using appalling French to talk about underwear (i.e. "festive de brief" = Christmas pants), but rather I'm talking about 'reviewing' The Cut at this Christmassy time of year! We've reached the end of season one of The Cut and we want to know your thoughts.
What did you like and what didn't you? What were your favourite storylines and which characters do you wish you'd seen more of?
Email us at thecut@bbc.co.uk or leave a comment here and let us know what you thought of The Cut.
But now... to finish... it's some festive (d) briefs!

Hello and merry six days until Christmas!
Did you watch the big premiere of The Cut series finale? You can watch the whole of episode 14 right now on iplayer.... And, I'll let you into a little secret, you can watch episode 15 (AKA the big finale) there too! Once you've watched it, can we please talk about how flipping shocking the ending is?? There. Are. No. Words.
There are loads of new pictures in the photo gallery from backstage at all The Cut episodes, ranging from Marla posing with a random statue of a dog to a photo of an actual dog.
Also, if you missed The Cut special do not fear... cos you can totally watch it again here. We went behind the scenes at the filming of the grand finale, plus I chatted to Marina and the Diamonds. Swwwweeeet as a nut.
Lastly, just because the first series of The Cut has come to an end, it does not mean that this blog will go into lockdown. OH NO. I am still The Cut's resident stalker and I will be doing my very stalking best to find out all the goss on The Cut: season two. And yes, I mean ALL the goss. So keep checking back here for that, plus new Cut Specials.
Oh and proper lastly, on Monday I'll be asking you for a few opinions, so keep an eye out...
Or two.
Whatever works best for you.
Vicki x
If you watched this week's 5:19 Cut Special you'll be well and truly in the know about this, but if not brace yourself... cos this is HUGE NEWS:
This Friday you can watch the series finale of The Cut on your computer screen... A WHOLE WEEK EARLY!
It's on straight after The 5:19 Show (which is live at errr, 5:19pm) and yep, that's the whole 25 minute episode. Brillopads.
So get involved this Friday (18th Dec) from 5:10pm on
www.bbc.co.uk/switch
Ohhh, there's a BIG announcement on The 5:19 Cut Special, but what could it be? Is The Cut to be made into a feature film? Has Jay admitted his impression was actually of Louis Walsh? Or has Vicki finally got engaged to Zac Efron? Probably none of those, but I'm sure it's going to be MASSIVE. Find out right now...

A-bloomin'-mazing. We can watch the series finale online this Friday! It's lucky Vicki mentioned that or I might still be crying about the way she has horribly mocked me this week. Oh Vicki, you are cruel. Oh no, I'm off again. *weeps*.
That's it. I've had enough. Let's cut this blog entry here... cut... cut...CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTT.
WHAT a week.Ìý There's nothing I can say here that Vicki hasn't already said better yesterday, but wow.Ìý Just, wow.
Although I do have to disagree with her on one little thing - if this blog did have a soundtrack, it wouldn't be the X Factor, oh no.Ìý It'd be all of this little lot:
---
- Eet
- Good Girls Go Bad
- If I Know You (Tania & Jori version)
- Regret
Emma Brockett - Leap of Faith (Courtesy of Â鶹Éç Introducing)
- Angels
- When She Smiles She Lights Up The Room
feat. - Chillin'
- Express Yourselves
- Keep it in the Family
- I'm Not Gonna Teach your Boyfriend...

(Not to mention all the music from the last 12 weeks)
OAO,
Trev
I feel like if this blog had a soundtrack, right now we would be playing some sort of epic, X Factor style music. This isn't because it's the X Factor final this weekend (although it is), nor is it because I'm thinking of entering the competition (although I am), but because this week was seriously EPIC, wasn't it?!
From the music to the looks, from those photos to THAT BIT where Marla threatens Toni with the truth, I'm surely not the only one who got little tingles? Experience them all again by watching The Cut week 13 omnibus here.
Also, did anyone spot a little cameo from a certain Mr Tom Deacon offa Ìýthis week? There's some lovely photos of him on set here. I was interested to know how he found the whole experience, so I ran down to the 5:19 studio in our basement to find out. Here is a step by step account of what happened:
Clip clop clip clop clip clop clip clop (not a horse, me running down the stairs - told you it'd be step by step)
ME: TOM!
Tom looks up from his hot chocolate and biscuit that he is using as a straw (yes, I don't know why either)
ME: I just wanted to ask, how did you find it being in The Cut?
TOM: It was...
PRODUCER BETH: Tom, I need to talk to you about today's show!
TOM: It was...
CAMERAMAN BARBERTRON: Tom, we're ready for your pre-record!
TOM: It was...
BISCUIT: Can you stop using me as a straw!*
TOM: It was...
Tom gets up and walks in front of camera, where he's needed for filming. The crew look on expectantly, waiting for his first line...
TOM: It was way more demanding than I thought it would be for one line.
I nod, I leave, I hear the words 'ACTION!' but just as I reach the end of the corridor, I hear the studio door being opened...It is Tom again.
TOM (shouting): But I think I nailed it?
So there we have it. What Tom really thought of his role. Me getting this valuable information may be slightly at the cost of The 5:19 Show that they were recording and for that, I'm sorry.
But I think you'll agree it was worth it.
Vicki x
*this bit may not have actually happened. But in my head it did.
Ìý
PS. Did you watch The Cut special this week? If not you might want to. Stephen lies, Sarah Williams-White performs and I get dizzy. Immense.
This week The 5:19 Cut Special takes you to the places where all the drama in The Cut unfolded (and most of the smooching too).
There's some tip top tips from head writer Al, Vicki brings you up to speed with her 60 second guide and Sarah Williams-White gives us an awesome performance of her track that was used in episode 12 of The Cut. What a voice!
Feast your eyes here, cutlets...

Which song was your fave this week?Ìý YOU DECIDE! (...ok I'll stop now)
OAO,
Trev
Oh well helloooo there and welcome to your classic Saturday Cut blog!
Ahhh, I love Saturdays: Lie ins, shopping with friends, attempting to tidy your room but actually managing to create more mess... and of course, The Cut omnibus! This week it was seriously DRAMATIC: actual GOL (gasp out loud) material. If you missed it, do not fear for the lovely people at iPlayer have popped it on their website in full watch again glory.
Do you wanna know a secret? COURSE YOU DO! The head writers on The Cut are having a big brainstorm next week about ideas for the next season of The Cut... AND I GET TO TAG ALONG! This is massive, no? So far my ideas include: a) moving to a hot country b) hiring MORE hot boys (okay, okay, I'll suggest a couple of hot girls to make it fair...) and c) that we do a whole week of The Cut as a musical.
Hmm. I think they'll regret inviting me pretty soon.
If you haven't been checking the website daily, you have missed out. A lot. But don't worry, not one to exclude, here's what you missed:
Behind the scenes photos - yes, yes, it's all here including a picture of a behind the scenes dog.
The 5:19 Cut special - featuring an advent calander, an awkward song sung by The Cut cast and some fake snow.
So get involved! Or you know, just have a look. Either will do.
Bye!

Vicki kicks off Christmas on The Cut this week by taking us through The Cut advent calendar. What's behind those magical doors? Find out right here...

I was wrong again! Jay really did look like Louis Walsh though didn't he? Anyway, I'm determined to crack the next challenge. I'm guessing the porky pie (lie) was tomato juice. Okay, okay, Francis Kane may sound like a big fat fib, but tomato juice is gross and shouldn't be classified as a drink. End of.
Grant out. Speak to you next week!
