Springwatch: One louder than other nature shows

Post categories:

Twenty-five years ago this year , and starred in one of the funniest movies of all time, , a spoof documentary about a fictional heavy metal band called Spinal Tap.

the guitarist Nigel () is showing the documentary maker () his new amp on which the volume controls go all the way up to 11...

Nigel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Director: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel: Exactly.
Director: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Director: I don't know.
Nigel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Director: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Director: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel: [pause] These go to eleven...

So there I was scanning the Messageboards when I spotted this:

BigRogSound: At last a real example of Â鶹Éç innovation. I notice the Springwatch webcam volume control goes up to 11. Well done for making those extra dB's available. How do you do it? I can now listen from the other side of the room whilst making a cuppa without difficulty. Thank you to the Â鶹Éç NoiseBoyz.

Grebelet: Springwatch, it's 1 louder than other nature shows...

Take a look below to see what they're talking about. Obviously the designers of the iPlayer viewer are as keen on Spinal Tap as BigRogSound and Grebelet:
