2007: A year Inside Sport

Amanda Farnsworth | 17:13 UK time, Monday, 3 December 2007

Hi again all,

A few weeks ago we asked you for your favourite bits of Inside Sport from this year and you responded with most votes for Gabby’s interviews with , and . There were also lots of votes for and also , who lost his legs in battle but wanted to become a Paralympic rower. We only had time to show short clips on the programme but you can see all those pieces in full, either from the links on this blog, or together with many other key interviews and great features on the .

Ricky Hatton

It’s been a great year for sport and we’ve covered a lot of it on the programme but whenever I take people on a tour of Television Centre to watch Inside Sport go out, they usually come away impressed by the calmness of Gabby and the panel on screen.

I remember when we piloted Inside Sport – it was the one and only time we did due to cost and time pressures – and sitting next to Richard our director. Coming from , I’ve seen some directors have to work flat out as crisis after crisis happens (broken satellite trucks, seeing the reporter but not hearing them, the computer server, that plays out all the reports crashes etc.) but I must admit to sitting in the gallery with some admiration watching the whirling dervish that was Richard as he directed that day. The thing is, we shoot the programme with cameras, and therefore the audience, all around the discussion and so it’s incredibly hard not to get the cameras in shot – somehow Richard and his camera operators have found a stylish way to do it.

Some people have asked whether we have paid any of our interviewees – the answer, I’m glad to say, is no and it will remain that way.

Well, we will be back next February with a special Olympic programme from following the big build up to the Games, the twist and turns of the season and all the big issues in sport through until mid-May.

Do join us then and don’t forget you can watch all your favourite moments on the website anytime.
