I'm the Â鶹Éç's media correspondent and this is my brief selection of what's going on.
Â鶹Éç director general Mark Thompson has been accused of endangering the Â鶹Éç's editorial independence by meeting Downing Street officials to discuss coverage of the Government's spending cuts and . The Â鶹Éç said he had made it clear its independence was paramount and they were talking to all the major parties about a season of programmes about the Coalition's Spending Review.
The the Government is under pressure to set up a judicial inquiry into phone-hacking at the News of the World, after the paper confirmed it had suspended a journalist while it investigated new allegations of illegal activity. The prime minister's media adviser Andy Coulson has denied a report in the New York Times, claiming he freely discussed the use of unlawful techniques.
