The major part of the today programme, nearly all Â鶹Éç radio channels and when the wedding was over the news at one on radio 4 was predominantly about the wedding and now PM is all about the wedding again OVER THE TOP

The kids were spot on, Gillianian - Perhaps they'd been tipped the wink by Sarah?

peterstick, do get over yourself. This was a fabulous day for all sorts of reasons. Don't be an old stick in the mud, chill out, enjoy and join millions who simply want to celebrate!

I thought your earlier remark about the Irish Guards was tongue in cheek ... maybe it wasn't, but certainly it should have been. It's great lots of people had fun today and I certainly appreciated the day off work, but this is no way to organise a society. It's no accident that Labour former prime ministers weren't invited; the traditional ruling establishment is back in charge, brimming with confidence and rubbing our noses in it.

Johann Hari of the Independent makes the case against the feudal state as competently as ever. Unfortunately he had to turn to an American alternative/lefty programme to get more than a two minute curiosity slot on tv.

lucien@9: how could you think my comment "tongue in cheek" and why would you? Why on earth do you think "it certainly should have been"? Simply can't understand what you mean and trying not to be totally insulted and offended by what you've said. Everyone is delighted by this marriage. It was a huge honour that William chose to wear the Irish Guards uniform and means such a lot - I hope you are not belittling this. No one is rubbing noses in anything. You are sounding like a fool.

I didn't mean to insult or offend you and I apologise if I did. It just seems to me to be a bit of a stretch to imagine that many Irish people would be bowled over by the prince's association with a military unit named in recognition of Ireland's place in the British empire. I know you live in the Republic so if you tell me that Irish people were genuinely cheered by William's choice of attire then I will happily accept that.

Everyone may be delighted by the marriage but a small but significant proportion of us are deeply opposed to the monarchy and the system of deference and privilege which it sustains. Maybe I sound like a fool but Polly Toynbee puts the intelligently in her column just posted on the Guardian website.

I felt very proud of our heritage today. In every way a real spectacle which I thoroughly enjoyed. For those, like me, who had the chance to watch it on Â鶹Éç1 HD it was even more awe inspiring. The camera work, shots inside the abbey - and the whole procession outstanding. I doubt however - after listening to 'more or less' that the anticipated viewing figures were as high as some of the predications.

Lucien has a very valid point though. The guest list had some glaring omissions. It's also questionable what message is sent out from today’s show of affluence to those struggling with the prospect of no employment and trying to keep a roof over their heads. It was also interesting that four of our guests staying in the B&B were keen to avoid the whole wedding and scuttled off early to do some shopping and walk down a quiet beach..

I'm afraid I am left cold by the whole thing. Nice that an heir to the throne is hitched to a nice lass. Other than that... yawn. I made custard for a wedding-free-zone lunch hosted by a Kiwi friend, and washed the car, on a day when I'd otherwise have been at the office fed-up because the students and tutors necessary to me doing my job are off on holiday!

The roads were pretty quiet. Other than that ... business as usual really. Sorry to be a wet blanket but that's how I feel! ;o)

I agree with you mate.
These occasions are meticulously planned and the snubbing of Labour politicians was deliberate.

Neglecting to invite the two recent Prime Ministers was a huge mistake. It will not help the reputation of the monarchy, in the eyes of many subjects.

That being said. There is no country on the planet that can put on pageantry like Great Britain! It was a superb show!

The 2008 Summer Olympics at Beijing were impressive? Pageantry aside, Ellis, do you think we can really justify the expense in our current economic climate? Radio 3 excluded! Though I agree the pageantry was a 'superb show'

Regardless of what some posters say, not everyone is delighted by the marriage. Some people kiss up to anything the Â鶹Éç does. I did, however, enjoy the music and played it through my stereo to annoy the neighbors. I have an old LP of music for Royal occasions that I got in the ?1970s. I thought William's uniform made him look like something from Ruritania and he should have worn his RAF uniform. Maybe I say that because our daughter's partner was on guard near the Cenotaph with an Air Force contingent.

jonnie Thanks for the Facebook advice elsewhere. My wife uses it, but I don't.

I watched the CBS evening news rebroadcast on Sky News last night. It was anchored from London and the only stories covered were the storms in the American south and the wedding. The nearest it came to the middle east was a trail for an interview with a CBS reporter who was assaulted in Tahrir square. Truly appalling.

Ln 19, Don't get me wrong, I quite like Ken Clarke, but what has he done that got him an invite to the wedding? I don't particularly like Brown or Blair, but thought as former PMs they should have been invited. I mean, after all, the Beckams were there.

Ln, We wil not, I repeat WILL NOT, be at the BBQ at U No Where today. We are watching a rerun of the tape of the 'Royal' wedding in reverse. I particularly liked the silly grins on the faces of Harry and Wills (our future King) throughout and their asides to each other. Too bad they didn't know there was a lipreader present to interpret them.

Sorry if I offended any royalists here. I'll bet some are quite annoyed that they didn't get invited to the wedding. I mean, after all, titles are titles, inherited or married in to.

Ooooh at last, something has knocked the Royal Wedding off the news agenda.
